Well, i know the song choice is a little different from what you advised.
There's no belting required in this song..
But as it was originally sung by Mika Nakashima (female) the high notes were a little strained. AND so.. i purposely left out one note in the chorus because i couldn't reach it for the life of me.
Hopefully, it won't be too noticeable..

AND just an FYI: i lowered the key by one semi-tone and i still couldn't reach that high note. *Cough*
oh yeah.. and I forgot to mention the instrumental is whacked up from lowering the key (thanks sikkony)

As I've already told you my dear sunbaenim C1, you've got the potential and I believe that this is the perfect moment for me to write down my "essay" about your voice.

There are three areas in singing that I look at.

1. Technique - Singing is so much more than just technique and the best thing about it is that you can learn and improve it. Will be harder for a tone deaf or not that musical person, but it is not impossible for them. You do not fit in any of those categories so don't worry.

2. Voice and potential - Basically all songs does not fit all people. Like, if I were to try to sing a power ballad, that wouldn't work. Worst is that you can't change your voice (ok a little, but why would you try except if you're transexual?) so you just gotta work with what you have. You just gotta find what works for you and the best thing about it is that you can cover songs and make them yours. Point 2 is basically the foundation of the next point.

3. Emotions, the "it" factor - I start to sound like a talent scout here but yeah, the "it" for me is the emotions. What are you trying to say to me, what are you singing? I had a, let's call her classmate, that could reach every single low note and hit every damn high note too BUT, I couldn't stand listening to her. She was basically just singing, just singing. She was "I'm gonna hit all the notes in the song and then I will be done, dot, finito."


I am person who don't give a shizz about range and technique, at least not when it comes to that last point. The reason why I believe that you can be a true powerhouse is because you have the voice. You almost have number 3 cause sunbae you sure moved me with this cover and not just because you posted it because of our deal, but you sang it beautifully! Just that I couldn't really feel what it was all about thus the "almost".

I would say the thing you lack the most among these three is point 1 (since you always mention that you can't hit high notes). You were a bit shaky at some parts, making some notes go flat, but you improved towards the end. Sounded like you started to relax more.

About the fact that you lowered the song; I do not mind you lowering it but I do mind you leaving that part out. Next time, don't leave words out. You can skip the high note but make something else out of it without going off tune. Can't hit all the notes and want to sing the song anyway? Work yourself around them and then practice and practice and practice...until you can reach them and voilá we have a developed technique.

I like the fact that you managed to sing it without sounding weak. People tend to do so when they sing "easy listening" songs. Last but not least C1, thank you and sorry for pushing you. This is a deal though, aiiish. *Bargainer scratches head leaving in silent*

I DON'T BELIEVE, because the notes leading up there before didn't sound strained to me at all. They sounded floatingly beautiful (?!). Did you attempt to push your vocals up to that part? Take a deeeeep breath and open your mouth WIDE and push it up? D: It's your head voice we are talking about, right? I believe that you can do it! I really do.

I think you don't mean that you can't reach it, but that maybe you don't reach it as well as you want yourself to? That's not called CANNOT! A bigg difference! Tell me that I'm right!!!! ARGH!

I really enjoyed listening to this. It's such a cafe song 8D~
Loved the guitar. I can imagine you doing this live with someone/yourself playing the guitar <3 Ooo acoustic stuff... I love! My only real critique here is that the emotion was a bit flat here for me. I am GUESSING that you sort of got 'affected' by Mika's style? To be honest with you, I don't like Mika Nakashima at all because I feel that she sings all songs with like... uniform emotion. Her songs always sound like.. the same to me. From begin to end it's like... the same T_T? The sound she makes isn't one that I like. I much prefer your voice and tone. Listening to the lyrics, I feel that there a bits where you could've sounded more painful and give a yearning feel (like the choruses AITAKUTE, AITAKUTE etc.), but that might just be me (Don't get me wrong, I DID hear you adding emotion but I thought that it was still a tad bit lacking for my taste hehe)

Pitch control was great in general.

gosh it's so refreshing to read your words, my dear... I enjoyed your essay

WELL, i've ALWAYS had problems with the emotion factor. I don't know. When I'm singing, i feel as if i'm really bringing out the emotion, but when i listen to the recording it's just flat. It's confusing more than anything.
and technique.. definitely needs a lot of improvement because I have no knowledge of anything. I actually had an informative convo with Becca today. Gave me a lot of pointers and perspective. I'll have to try them out for the next time I sing.

but really my main problem is thinking too hard about singing. I'm worrying too much about staying in tune, holding the note, keeping the same force at the beginning and end of lines, etc etc. So i guess when it comes to the emotion, it quickly gets lost or forgotten, and I don't pay attention to it. BUT THEN.. when i try to put more emotion in my singing, then my technique dies and I'm horribly pitchy, out of breath, and the singing just sounds extremely hoarse and well like crap.

haha but my potential.. is hmmm... waning........

it's just defeating really...to work so hard to sing a song and then have it turn out so mediocre when others are whiping out professional songs left and right.. hahaha BLEGH.. thats all.
