my buddies jetta got hydrolocked due to his stupid CAI so now he is in search of another car. he is currently looking at these two right now.

he stated the red one has some imperfections as you can see in the pictures (door handle, debadged). He also stated the roof and the spoiler are painted black and wants to know if these came from the factory or i guess custom. How reliable are these cars? any issues he should be aware of? Are those AWD drivetrain durable?

Any other addition opinions, advice are welcome.

most european brands are notorious for being high - maintenance and unreliable. they're getting better, but 2001 .... i think i'd invest in a japanese car or a newer generation .

I'm sure i've mentioned this many times.

Everytime I swing by the local dealership (which does Audi, Volkswagen, Volvo, Mazda), there are always way more Audi and VWs sitting in the repair yard than any other vehicle. I remember even one time I was sitting in the lobby (waiting for my Volvo to get its recall done), and hearing Audi/VW owners complain to the service people about their service and how they found all these new problems, etc...

mmmm, thanks for the replies. i dunno at this point if i can persuade him to a diff car, esp Japanese. he's more of the
"euro" guy and can't seem to realize there are plenty of better, suitable cars out there besides European cars.
