i've had this issue for a while but haven't resolved it yet. i have a sh!tty HP pavilion dv4000 laptop and at first, it would i guess overload when i play a pc game and shut down. now, even just surfing through the net, it would sometime shut off without notice on its own (usually after keeping it on for a long time). its really pissing me off, especially when i'm writing a paper or something. i bought a cooling fan, defragmented, installed anti-virus bla bla bla and still does it.
any ideas on how to fix this?

My dv6000 shuts off when it overheats too! and HP is ticking me off... anyway, I found out that mine turns off if the power adapter is overheated too...

Open up the back of the laptop, get a can of compressed air and blow all the dust out. If that doesn't help, you're kinda boned =\
