So, my laptop gave me a SMART failure warning and won't boot up (even if I press F1 like the screen tells me to). I took it to someone and they said I needed a new hard drive. Can anyone recommend one for me? HP Pavillion dv6000 entertainment PC is what I have. I have no experience in buying or installing hard drives, but my friend said he'd install it for me. I don't know what to get though. I'm hoping to get something decent 160GB or MORE... and I don't wanna spend more then $100 :x cuz I already spend a buttload just to have it looked at

You need a 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive. Just about any SATA is fine, most will work.
Do you like storage?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822145257 500gb $79 after $10 mail in. I use that drive in my DV2000.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148184 isn't bad to just replace and not upgrade.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822145255 Decent deal
I hope you made the recovery disks the HP documentation tells you to make. When you put it in, it will not have anything to boot from, so you will need to use the recovery disks to rebuild the computer. If you don't, get a copy of vista, even one from your friend is fine and install it using the key on the bottom of YOUR laptop. If you use their key, you will just get both copies of Vista disabled. If you choose to go this route, you will need to go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html and download the drivers for your computer.
Good luck, and feel free to ask questions.
By the way, I consider this a "help" question, tech generally is used for discussion of new stuff and software recommendations.

Oh alright
Sorry, I don't usually use this part of the forums, so I'm not familiar with the rules and subthreads.
@awdark: Wow, that first one is an amazing deal. But I already ordered this one: http://www.frys.com/product/5947274?site=s...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
I asked the sales guy and he said it's a great upgrade from my old one, especially the 7200 RPM because I like to multitask
Less space but I didn't even use up all of the 160GB in the old hard drive, so I think this will be enough. Thanks for the help though! I don't have a recovery disk but I'm working on making one. Apparently my laptop still functions because it's only a SMART failure prediction. Hopefully that pulls though..

Oh ok, usually it actually lasts a while.. then you start getting errors... then the drive clicks.
Far better than mine which completely died with zero warning as I was typing up a program
