Sometimes it just means you do need to talk. It doesn't necessarily mean it's something bad, people should stop being too paranoid about such things.

Eh, I usually don't freak out that much 'cause usually when it gets to that point of the line "We need to talk" being pulled on me, it's pretty much been a long time coming. If I know something's wrong and I know what it is, or if I feel like a breakup's inevitable, I'll usually cut them off at the pass and save myself a bit of dignity.

It's more of a 50/50. Good or bad.

I remember my ex coming to me one time, saying, "Hey, we need to talk, I gotta ask you something."

He had this serious face on him and later goes...

"I'm freakin's starving, can you make me a home-cooked dinner? PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE?? with mashed potatoes too?"

so...yeah. o_O

It's not always a bad thing. I say it to my bf, but it's only because I actually want to talk to him about something that's bothering me? It's not always a break-up (if that's the vibe you got?)

my boyfriend and i use that line to each other way too often, but it's not always about anything bad/serious.
but when other people say that, i start to get really worried, wondering what i've done wrong =/

When I usually ask them to talk is usually for serious talks. But then I would add "can we be serious for a moment? I have a question to ask you". Or something along the lines. The last time I used this line is when the person I've been dating and I parted ways. Hahaha

Hmm I think it depends on the context for that. Apparently it's always supposed to lead to the break-up talk or something, but maybe a couple just had an awkward silence and someone says "we need to talk" for the sake of conversation laugh.gif

It could be good or bad depending on the circumstances and the tone it's used in. Try not to get too nervous about it beforehand, and be open to what comes out of it. You never know, something positive might even result out of it and whatever issues you had are resolved after this talk. If it ends up badly and this talk actually leads to a breakup, then there's nothing you can really do but accept it and move on.

LOL, cute example!
But I agree, sometimes if "we need to talk" is said in a pretty serious, grave tone then I think it's probably bad.
Other times though, it's probably something really random. haha
