So I just got home from a crappy day at work. Go to find my mail and see that I am summoned for jury duty. FML because I really don't want to do it. My co-worker did it last year around this time and told me it was effin horrible because it was so boring. And on top of that, only get paid 10 bucks for the days I serve.

Anyone wanna share their jury duty experiences?

I've ever been a drawing and coloring jury contest at my previous office, within elementary kids - senior high school range. They chose me because I was one of the committee members who held the event - plus I was the one who took the responsibility with the 'creative section' including design. So everyone counted me out for that drawing contest.

As for me, it was so fun, I created the theme, rules, also designed for what would be the task for the coloring contest as well the subject which should be used for the drawing contest. I was also introduced with other juries who's even older than me (it was surprising that they really put so much respect toward me who's still younger than them).

Well, as for the competition itself, it's really well done. I mean, being the jury will give so much chances to improve yourself while you're in duty to give your judgment and value toward others. It's like 2 ways interaction and I enjoyed it.

So, good luck with your jury duty ^^ enjoy it, it's not that bad.

i've never been chosen to be on a jury but it's soooo boring

and it was really lame..i spent 3 days going to court because the first day the judge had a "meeting" to attend so we got let out early, the 2nd day the killer or iono whatever didn't show up so half the morning was spent waiting, 3rd day i finally explained who i was and just shut up the whole time hoping to get dismissed and thankgod i did...

my friend went with me on the first day and got dismissed that same day..i was so unlucky

where i live you don't get paid the 1st day, you get paid the days after and its not much either i think it was 15$/day + mileage

actually i'm wondering about this, too.

i recently got called for jury duty as well.
i'm hoping they will dismiss me as soon as they see me.
i'm scared i'll be unlucky and get some murder case or something.

Gee people, it's only jury duty. It sure beats having to appear in court as a defendant. ph34r.gif

When you say "summoned" for Jury Duty I picture someone coming out of a cloud of smoke with huge horns, muscles and magical powers... like Final Fantasy 7.

I tried dodging my second jury duty with a letter that I had DONE service less than a year prior, but they withheld only for five months. I didn't have the energy to write another letter so I caved in. Thing was, I forgot to call in to see if I should show up. With my luck, I was supposed to go in Monday morning. I called in the next day to explain that I forgot. The chick seemed rather annoyed, but she was like, "All right, well, write a letter explaining why you didn't come in." I think it was to select a jury for this murder case on a Broncos player, too.

Anywho, my first experience was really boring because the case was about a wife hitting her husband. It was entertaining to watch other people come up with excuses as to why they can't do jury duty. My method was stolen from a friend; I acted like a ditzy teenager. Ditzy I was not; teenager I was. I even dressed up for the part.

It's not so bad, I was just at Jury duty on Monday. Bring a laptop loaded with Movies, there should be areas where there's "quiet space" and with some headphones and your laptop, you should be enteretained for a bit. Bring a book, maybe some work - don't expect internet access there, you probably won't find any.

I was held until 2:30 and then released, I wasn't selected - but then again I never am because of my family and my college major but whatever.

I love jury duty, actually I really wanted to be placed on jury duty - but they never place me sad.gif . Only thing to remember is that there might be long cases on the docket so be sure to find out from your employer how many weeks they will pay for you to be on Jury Duty.

Jury Duty is boring, they put you in this room where you do nothing but wait till you name is called (THAT IS IF IT WILL BE CALLED, YOU CAN BE THERE FOR 1 DAY AND YOUR NAME WILL STILL NOT BE CALLED)

Best thing to do, bring a laptop, psp, ds, or w/e entertainment device you have so you won't be extremely bored.

An extreme waste of time.

It's ludicrous that a day of your time would be valued only at ten dollars. It'd be ludicrous at even ten times that amount.

Get out of it by trying to present yourself as having a bias of some sort, in one way or another. Don't be too obvious, though... people have gotten in trouble for contempt of court in the past by being too OTT.

I've never been to jury duty because I can't be part of the jury. Lol. I did get the letter though and sent it in. I'm not eligible so yeah. I hear it's really boring so you should definetly take a laptop or something with you. Maybe you can browse soompi while waiting. Haha.

I got a few summons for jury duty. The first 2 times I made some excuses and did not go. The 3rd times I went because I was afraid they would come lock me up if I made another excuse. But anyways, after more than half a day sitting and waiting I went in front of the judge who asked some questions. It was a murder case I think. I responded his questions with some contradicting answers so they let me go. The second time after waiting for half a day they let us go because all cases were settled before court. If you don't want to become a jury just say that you have circumstances that would affect your judgment so you can't objective. Just make up something.
TJP, that I like.

I know everyone hates jury duty but this post makes me sad. I think it's our civic duty and actually I also think it's a privledge to be on a jury. There are a lot of people out there that would beg for a justice system like ours. I know 15 dollars a day isn't much, but I also think that if it were me or my family on trial, I would want people that saw what they were doing as more than '"a waste of their time" but rather a duty to serve their community in some way.

It really bothers me that there are people that find it to be such a waste. I just hope that if they're ever faced with needing to go to court and have a trial, that they won't have to deal with jury members that think of it as a waste of their time.

I got off lucky. Got summoned to go on a Friday and thought it would ruin my whole day but I was there from I think 8:30 - 2pm with a 2 hour lunch break in between smile.gif They didn't even call me in to interview me and all but 20 of us were allowed to go home. I'm exempt for another 8 years and my $40 check arrived in the mail a few weeks later biggrin.gif

I got called in for a DUI. I was 18th on the list, and they only needed 6, so they let me leave by noon. Given that it's my first experience, I thought it was fun to get some exposure about the process.

You know I actually was able to fake my school schedule by tweaking it a little and I got off of it haha! other than that, I hear they do some pre-screening anyway so you should act completely insane or something..thats what i hear..but I know school is more than a good enough excuse.

Last time I was serving one lady said she does not believe in the jury system.
She got removed from the selected body of jurors.

You can probably do the same. State that you believe all people who are brought into the courts are guilty and should do away with the jury trial. Many citizens do not know the law in the first place.

For me, I really like the process of the jury service, and my employer pays unlimited days.

Last time I served, the defending lawyer even outright lied and some of the jurors voted the alleged as innocent. Hung jury. wacko.gif

i sent in a request to be excused for the reason of me being 7 months pregnant. i received a notice today that i am excused for the time being. kinda sad that i might not be summoned again, but mostly just relieved i don't have to go through the possibility of crying in front of others if the case turns out to be super serious.

I got summoned a few years ago *bang! cue puff of smoke*. I ran around like a headless chook trying to work it out with work sending in a fax trying to get me off the hook. I was running a new project that was rather time sensitive. In the end the cases were either settled or deferred so all the candidates were let off. If I hadn't been working on a project I wouldn't have minded too much, although if I'd been chosen it was likely to be a 6 week murder trial... a bit too much to be out of work.

Or you could do what my co-workers did. Throw away the summons. They can't track whether or not you received the letter itself unless you called in/registered.

But it's a risk you take, a risk I wasn't willing to take. Meh, I just saw it as a day off from work.
