I'll be a freshman this year in University and I've been freaking out a lot of the time about it.
One of the things that I'm most curious about, is if University/College really changes a person? For the better? Has anybody ever changed for the worse? Are those who live on residence have more of a change than those who commute and stay at home? And if so, how?

hmm university has it's ups and downs
but for me staying in the dorms has changed me to be able to be more responsible and do my own things without my parents doing it for me, I find that commuters tend to still rely on their parents alot if they're living in their parents homes..and they don't make as much friends compared to someone that dorms or at least that's what happens in my school.........college also helps you learn and grow and understand yourself a bit more..at least for me I've learned alot as the years went by..college is also probably the funnest 4 years of your life..people might think highschool is but imo I think college is ALOT better..you make new friends that have the same goals same hobbies as you if you're in the same major and etc...so ya hope that helps

For the better.
I'm more responsible, more confident, know how to manage my time well, I can handle all the things I need to do in school and in my soon-to-be career, and I'm just happier with myself. smile.gif
College was/is 10x better than high school!

Change me for the better, definitely. I study way more now that I'm in college. I'm like an official nerd now, trufax. Learned to be independent to and you suddenly find out that it's not about you anymore. You get to learn so much things about yourself, like the things you think you couldn't do but you end up doing anyway smile.gif It's like it's a totally different thing compared to highschool. Way more fun! (lol I sounded like an infomercial haha)

The best thing about college is that it teaches people to be independent. I experienced this first hand, because on my move-in day my freshman year, I was the only one out of the six of us NOT to bring my parents with me, have them basically do everything for me. If you're already pretty independent, then college won't change that.

Studying and time management are two other big factors. Procrastinating happens less often.

I've definitely changed for the better. I'm a lot more responsible, punctual, reliable, etc. When I lived on campus with my friends (uni dorm) I was still a lot like my high school self. I would be late to every class and not do any homework. Then when I moved off-campus to live with my family (our whole family moved because my other sister was going to the same school I was) I had to learn to be more prepared because my house is an hour away from school. I also had to learn to manage my time better. And when I got failing grades for the first time, and I began to care more about my grades.

Doesn't really apply to all. I find that my (living on-campus) friends and I don't work on the same clock. I say 7, and I'm there at 7 or earlier. They get there 8 or later. I don't even know why they live like this. It's annoying and every time I hang out with them I find that they waste a lot of time doing nothing when they could be off doing something important.

more independence, helped me mature more, and i learned a lot about myself. i have my own apartment, cook for myself, buy my own food, clean my own house, and clean my own clothes. seriously, people who live away from their parents learn to be independent a lot more than ones who stay home and go to CC.

i feel more independent, the key word is feel. I still live with my parents, but if i didn't, i would only feel independent on the outside, because i still wouldn't be independent unless i'm handling all the financial issues myself.

I am actually less confident. I am depressed a lot. sometimes for the littlest things. my self esteem has taken a plunge.

I am at the crossroads of wanting to make more friends and trying to push them away. At the moment i'm a little depressed, and i'm sitting at a different table from some friends that i really get along with. I just want to be alone. It's a weird feeling.

Everyone is going to say that they've more independent, and to some degree that is true. You have to learn how to cook, spend your money wisely, prioritizing your time, etc. I've also learned that being in a university = less sleep and putting those studying skills to use-- of course it depends on the courses you're taking and who your professor is. ;D

Also the experience helps you to prioritize what is important and what isn't. My roommate is still working out those kinks, since she prefers partying and being boozed up most of the time, lol. I was apprehensive the first time I was going off to college but I love it now. You get more freedom and it allows you to take control of yourself, w/o having your parents do everything for you. It's what you make of it. I've met a lot of friends and had a lot of great experiences through college.
