While googling for some info about Amber, I happened to find a deleted(?) article on seoulbeats about her by Ellie. Since it was deleted I got to the page by clicking on the 'cached' button =D Apparently it was never published but here it is (I omitted the pictures btw):

Amber confuses me

Before I begin my rant on f(x)�s boy/girl member, Amber, I would just like to say it amazes me on the amount of press and buzz this group is getting even before their debut. Now let me begin my rant.

Alright, let me throw some facts out there before I get shot by crazy f(x) fans. Amber is indeed a woman, she�s Chinese American and reigns from Orange County California. She auditioned for SM in 2007 and has been training in Korea since last year. Is this info correct? Okay, talent aside, let�s just talk about this dude/dudett�s looks for a little bit. Now when I refer to Amber as a �he� don�t get your panties in a bunch cause I actually think she�s a very handsome woman. I�ve heard this whole androgenous look is a huge hit in other parts of Asia and I do appreciate people who dress, look, and think out of the box but something about her/him really perplexes me. First off, these pictures of her just give me really creepy vibes, I have no idea why. If you never told me she was a woman, I would�ve just thrown her into the pretty boy box and went well on my way to not giving a second glance at f(x). But the fact that you tell me she�s a woman creeps me out. Why? Cause she�s a woman! Why the heck is she dressing and looking like a man?



It�s even stranger when you place Amber next to her fellow members who all look like sugar fairy Korean princesses from SNSD pink land. Maybe I�m being harsh, but I guess SM is being smart and as our writer vixenxvarla wrote, Amber is indeed SM�s secret weapon. I just hope this male/female has talent cause if she doesn�t, then all this hype will dwindle down into the she-man with no talent. And that would really suck but until she showcases what she/he is made of, I�ll give Amber and the rest of her group a chance.

so dont get hype up/expecting too much, as time goes by we will see their true talent
hope SM wont do something stupid in the promotion that will make the gals suffered from bashing

I agree with the writer on one thing,Amber is SM's secret weapon.Amber is totally different from all of the other girls in SM,aswell as all the other Idol Girl Group members.Sure all the girl groups have that one member who is the "oppa" of the group but with Amber SM is just taking it to whole different level.We haven't seen someone like Amber yet.And I do believe that she has the talent to back up all the hype she is getting,the one thing about SM is that they always make sure their trainees are really really ready for when they debut.If Amber has only been training for a year then she must be really talented if their debuting her already.

All I have to say in regards to this unpublished article is that the author has some serious double standards. She has a problem with androgynous females but what about the prevalence of androgynous/effeminate males in kpop? Or the fact that there have been numerous occasions when male idols dressed up as women? I didn't see anyone all up in arms over that.

I don't see the issue with an androgynous female alongside "sugary fairy Korean princesses." I think it's refreshing. I like how the author emphasizes "Korean princesses" when Victoria Song is also Chinese.

i know it's inevitable, but it does bother me when some people are really close-minded, and freak out when they see a person who can't be neatly boxed and labeled based on their preconceived stereotypes about gender, girl groups, etc.. People are too quick to judge - Just because she's a girl doesn't mean she has to have long hair and wear skirts/dresses. I thought that those standards were thrown out the window decades ago. Anyways, I hate to argue, but I think it's a good thing that Amber's pushing boundaries.
