I don't know. I don't think the navigation system of today
is very accurate.. My friends has Garmin, but she
doesn't get any signals in Boston. I even got lost
one time using a navigating system. @_@ So
I don't trust navigating system all that much.

Yes, I agree. I have a Garmin Nuvi 200 Satellite-based Nav (which i think is the cheapest one), but it's still good and can get you places you need. However, it doesn't know anything about traffic you could end up in annoying stop and go.

If there's something wrong with your mind, you see a shrink.
But, when there's something wrong with your soul, you have no where to run to, but MUSIC.

You can. Just go to the setting and you can check to avoid Highways and Ferries.

The Navigon was precise with turn warnings down to 100ft. also the screen refresh rate was smooth. One thing I didn't like was the sluggish response when I pressed buttons on the touch screen but I think they fixed that with software updates (which are sent free by email). Most of Navigon's premium GPS units already come with lifetime traffic warnings (no subscription needed). Navigons look sexier than most brands IMO. I sold mine because I broke the mount, which is a stupid reason.
Right now I use a Magellan 1400 (cheap on eBay for under $100 new). It works good enough for the price but the frame rate is choppier than the Navigon and comes with no traffic updates.
Having owned 3 different brands I say you can't go wrong with any brand - any will last long if you take care of it. Check if it comes with free traffic updates if you care for that. I also suggest you go to the store and test the responsiveness of the touch screen. Keep track of how many seconds it takes to get from the home screen to the point when the unit locates where you are and starts the actual navigating. Also count how many different screens you have to cycle through to get to the navigating process. After you own a GPS you'll discover that 99 times out of 100 you're doing this exact same motion of entering the address and you'll get sick of it

It's popular... it's just cheap and people don't think cheap is good usually.
