k so my mom got her first ticket failure to yield to emergency vehicle. and we arent sure to what to do about it....We called this # that was sent to us from the mail about this program thing. They told us that my mom is on one year probation or something and that she could do a course and pay 350$. Then we called another # on the police ticket to know where/how to pay it and they said it's NOT PAYABLE and she has to appear to court on Oct. But my mom can't make it that month because we going out of state then the lady said if u dont appear u go to jail.
I was like woah ok.... im confused.

If anybody knows what to do.. please inform because me and my mom don't know anything!
My mom is a foreign asian wit lack of english and I'm just a not so smart asian american that doesn't know much about court stuff. sad...but true.... sad.gif
Also, My mom asked one of her friends to help her and they said if she does the course she wont hafta go to court? is that true? Just wanna make sure because her friend never even heard about this ticket violation before.
All we want to do is pay the fine/get it over with and NOT have to go to court because we leaving out of state that month!

If you can't make the date, call them and ask for an extension.

The ticket should be payable. I've never heard of a non-payable ticket.

my mom told them that she couldn't make it. and the lady seemed annoyed by my mom on the phone because my mom lacked some english so she said "you can't choose what you want!, alright if you can't make it they going to come get you and you're going to jail." thought that was kind of rude of her..
and yes that lady said the ticket was non payable. maybe we have to go to court first to find out how much it is when we explain the situation? Other ppl we have talked to never heard of this type of non payable ticket either.

Whoever this lady is, she is giving you false information. Why would the police give you a ticket that isn't payable? The Police department's looking for any kind of money they can get. Go to another official and ask them about it. Better yet, have one of your mother's friends help you.

Err, don't go to the police station. Go to the courthouse that is listed on the citation, it'll probably be easier to just speak to someone in person. They may or may not have someone there who speaks your mother's language, so it's best for you and/or your mom's friend to go with her smile.gif And you could actually pay the fine right there, which means that your mom pleads guilty, and then she should get a paper that grants her the privilege of attending/passing traffic school to keep a point from getting added to her insurance file. But just try to go there in person, sometimes things are confusing over the telephone.

so my mom's friend called them for us. She told us to go to the courthouse and ask about this program thing. We went today and this very nice man working there talked to us bout the program. The program involves my mom taking a driver test (which we having mailed to us) that is 150$ and my mom paying 30$ a month til feb or less depending if the test is passed. Doin this program also mean no charges will go on my mom's record and we dont have to appear to court on the date assigned. Other things are involved wit doin this program but dont feel that is necessary 2 talk bout.
Anyways, We also asked how we pay for the ticket and he said the program will clear the ticket for us. huh.gif
I've never heard about this before but we decided to do it. I tink this is some sort of pre trial thingy cuz the man kept saying pre-trial alot.
I dont understand why we can't just simply pay the fine somewhere and get it over with just like that? The ppl we talked to at the courthouse NEVER gave out the ticket price and just told us what we needed to do and here we are.... so i guess situation solved? ya think?

this happened to my mom too. She didn't move for an emergency vehicle and got a ticket. She went to court, paid for the ticket and had to take (online) traffic school on top of that. I think traffic school is optional but it will save from a tainted record (i think).

Yes! i kno cops are hungry for money. the one that pulled my mom over was arrogant. my mom asked what she did wrong cuz she DIDNT pass speed limit and he replied " I am state police officer " i was thinking... dry.gif no duhr its obvious.. My mom kept questioning him why he didnt get the car in front of us too (cuz she was following their lead) and he kept replying "Im still goin write the ticket" that was his only reply all the time.....
As you can tell i'm a lil annoyed and upset cuz our time/money is bein wasted. We aren't even sure if the cop gave a ticket for a good reason cuz every one of my mom's friends never heard of this situation or type of ticket before. I dont even understand what we did wrong....

I know you're frustrated, but fyi, the excuse that other drivers are doing the same thing won't work. That doesn't change what you were doing. And I thought you said that your mom didn't yield to an emergency vehicle huh.gif What do you mean you don't know what you guys did wrong?

no offense to the OP and the person who posted a comment, but failing to yield to an emergency vehicle is just about the most obnoxious thing you can do on the road. Peoples lives are at risk, and yet you are too lazy to make a little turn and let them pass? jeez. i think that the ticket classes and everything are justified. i fact, revoke their licenses i say.

From what I've read your post (OP), I think you should have a different friend to help you that knows what kind of situation it is (aka, knows what failing to yeiled ticket is) out rather than having one that doesn't KNOW about "this type of ticket violation"? I think that'd help even more, imo.

iono the whole class program thing sounds very iffy haha

btw.. not yielding to emergency vehicles is ignorant... I used to be an EMT and some drivers would actually cut us off when we were running hot (lights and sirens)..... seriously.. peoples lives are at risk...put yourself in the ambulance.. someone from your family is sick and needs to get to the hospital right away and is in the ambulance.. i'd want people to gtfo of the ambulances way.

some comments here are harsh/truthful but they dont pertain to our situation anyways... smile.gif
don't worry ppl me and my mom already understood that it is IMPORTANT to move out the way if the police or ambulance lights and sirens are on and in a rush running. We have yielded EVERYtime for that occurence but in this case it was very different.
yes the violation on the ticket said failure to yield to emergency lights. I'll explain the story of why I dont understand why we got this ticket.
Explaining the story...
K so my mom was driving on a two way highway on the right lane. Speed limit was 65 my mom ran 55. we were behind this car not far from us and then ahead up was a police car PARKED/SITTING on the right side of the highway with his emergency lights on but no Sirens sound. (I assumed he just had something wrong with his car) We passed him and just kept going straight just like the other cars in front of us and goin their speed limit. After like 3 minutes later he was behind us to pull us over. Yea... then he said to my mom that when she saw his car parked wit emergency lights on the side we shouldve moved/merge to the left lane. we couldnt move to the left lane anyways cause there was a car on our left side..

can anybody tell what was wrong? Is what we did really an actual violation? and please forgive me for asking because of my ignorance but i just can't spot the serious problem.
maybe things vary in every state and thats why we cant pay the ticket and hafta to do this program. ok so yea i think we got our situation about court worked out now. thanks anyways everybody.

Not sure here but in British Columbia in Canada. On a freeway, you must slow down to 70kmh when there is a emergency vehicle flashing lights on the side of the road and 40kmh on a major street. Not sure about the merging onto another lane part unless you have to pull over to the side when an emergency vehicle is driving by.

I think the police was right to catch you down and hand you a ticket :X I mean, he kinda told you the reason why he flagged you down? If you said you couldn't move to the left lane because of another car, wouldn't there be space in front of that car? .____."
Correct me if I'm wrong..haha.

Yes your right he did tell us what was wrong. smile.gif but I didn't expect that just passing up a police car that was parked on the side of the road with their lights on was a crime. The experience happened and we learned from it. You learn something new everyday biggrin.gif Sorry bout the ranting moment it was just to get my feelings out, I'm that type of person that likes to write their heart out, kinda feel weird bout posting that rant now silly me... lol

well..even if your mom hated switching lanes, I think it was her fault for not doing so, even though it was clear you were supposed to? XD

yup yup but Im questioning what was the purpose of having to switch lanes though. I mean the police car was just parked on the side of the road with no sirens alerting, the lights were just on and he was just sitting there. I thought he just parked with his lights on because he had something wrong with his car; thats what most ppl do anyways at least. We just drove straight pass him and bam! ticket for us. We told the problem to the guy at court and he said hmm... maybe the guy didn't have a good meal or just thinks he can do whatever he wants but he dunno... and he said he's been getting alot of ppl coming in with the same ticket as us. lol we're not alone.
Was everyone aware already that you couldn't drive straight pass a parked police car with lights on? guessing its a new law.

if the police had something wrong with their car, wouldn't they have turned on their emergency signals (you know, the red triangle sign in your car)?

In my opinion, I don't think police cars need to have their siren on just to inform others of trouble; even if you see their siren lights on, people should know that they need clear out of the way? but that's just totally my opinion. and why you should've changed lanes was that in order to park on the curb side, I think you had to change lanes unless your on the very left lane on the road.

But anyways, I think you should get a lawyer. LOL.
