so a few days ago my mom told me the computer stopped working so i thought we could just reformat it but when we turn it on it just shows an error and nothing else. When we put the windows disc in to start the reformat it doesn't even read it. Is it a virus? Is it just an old computer? Do I have any options besides going to a professional and dishing out the same amount I bought it for? PLEASE HELP !!! my parents keep bugging me to fix it AHHHH

Can you start by telling us what the error says?

No it's not a virus when the computer cannot read it. Have you tried checking the Boot Settings in the BIOS?

1. How old is the computer (BIOS Battery Dead Option)
2. What kind of error is it?
3. Does your computer make any beeps? (Different beeps tell different stories.)
4. Doing the boot settings might work by switching its first read to the CD/DVD Drive.
5. Dead Hardware - Motherboard, Hard drive.
6. New computer - 100x faster (:

if it shows an error on the screen, that means its atleast posting, meaning your mobo is not dead. are you receiving like a NTDLR error? in anycase if its not reading the windows disk, you need to go into bios and change your first boot device to boot from CD.

would help alot if you would tell us what the error said lol, go into the bios menu and change the boot to cd first but first tell us what the error is >.<
