^ Yeah, it reduces the tissue and fat inside the breast, which will shrink the breast size.

she wants to be totally flat? Dang... is she a tomboy?

Let's be clearer here: is she cutting off the entire breast (mastectomy) or actually getting breast reduction? These are two very different things and can be used for very very very different reasons. For one thing, breast reduction is a cosmetic and sometimes medical surgery to make her breasts smaller but not cut off the breast completely. Many women opt for this surgery because they're tired of their clothes not fitting properly (and it can be difficult if you've got a tiny waist and huge boobs) or because of back problems (large breasts may weigh a lot and hurt the back). Some women have their breasts removed completely for a variety of reasons, the most common of which is cancer: in order to prevent the cancer from spreading, some women want to be safe and cut off their breast or breasts entirely. Some women may have their breasts removed because they want to be men--transsexuality, in other words--and, while it's much more popular to take testosterone for this purpose, it is not unheard of to have surgical intervention.

You're not clear as to what your friend is doing; and the two different procedures have very different connotations and outcomes.

completely removed or reduced??
like rachilde said it is completely different for different reasons.

but if she wants to get completely rid of it for no reason then i think that could seriously effect her hormonal balances not to mention she will have problems breastfeeding later in life.

Make it clear that you don't know and tell her to go ask her mom or something.

well as rachilde said, testosterone injections. or do they have pills? w/e, get testosterone into her blood

if you want, try to convince her out of it, unless she wants to be a transsexual, i don't know any girl who wants NO boobs. she'll regret it in the future

Well first, surgery is too extreme for transsexuality purposes if that's what you mean by 'tom boy;' not to mention, only a psychiatrist working in conjunction with a surgeon can order such a procedure if the procedure is purely psychological in purpose. If she wants to actually appear male, I'd suggest telling her she can see a psychiatrist about the matter, since a psychiatrist can prescribe her testosterone which will reduce her breasts chemically. She should only take testosterone if she wants to be a man. It will cause other things to happen other than the mere reduction of breast size like a deeper voice and more facial hair and a more muscular stature. In any case, you still haven't been very clear on why exactly she wants the surgery.

how old is she anyway?

i've seen posts on this forum from soompi members who were still teenagers who would prefer having flat board chest, just because their clothes fit them just they way they wanted.
So she's not the alone.

or, cheaper way, she can just exercise alot.
those olympic female athletes barely have any breasts because they have very low % body fat.

She is 18, i told her about what you guys are suggesting and saying and she said thanks.
So i think she gonna go for a testosterone injection. But do you know guys know how much its gonna cost for her to buy it or something?

err.. speaking as a woman, i think she's better off with exercising. i mean injecting testosterone/breast reduction/mastectomy sound really extreme. i mean she may be okay with it now but there could be some psychological complications later on in life, especially since she's only 18 now. if she lives up to 80 years old, she still has 3/4 of her life to regret this if she does something drastic.

with exercise, it sounds like she has a better chance of going back...?? i dunno, correct me if i'm wrong :x

A song can take you back instantly to a moment, a place or even a person.
No matter what else has changed in you or the world, that one song stays the same, just like that moment.

Um, hello, testosterone has more effects on the human body then reduction of brests!

It also gives you body hair. Does your friend want a permanent beard?

Not only beard, but you start growing hair like a boy - meaning everywhere. It permanently gives you a deep voice, it changes your muscles to look masculine. It makes your clitoris into a tiny penis (it can reach several inches lenght!).

Christ, it's not like you can just get testosterone OTC anyways.

I'm not suggesting testosterone as a breast reduction method but as part of the therapy for a transsexual individual who has been diagnosed by a psychiatrist for transsexuality and wishes to take steps to become someone of the opposite gender. From the way the question is phrased, the OP's friend sounds like she actually wants to get rid of her breasts for reasons that are not wholly cosmetic but gender-related and psychological. Unfortunately, our OP seems to have a poor grasp on basic 'abnormal' psychology (I hesitate to call transgenderism abnormal, but that's the common phrase given by psychology textbooks) and of course cannot diagnose his friend himself--nor do I propose we diagnose his friend for him. I've merely suggested that if she expresses serious wishes to turn her female body into a male body, she should consult a psychiatrist and be properly diagnosed with therapy options considered.

Thanks for understanding my friend, she really wish to be in a male body. I can't blame her it's her choice and thats she really wants. So she must consult a psychiatrist in order for her to be in a male body form. *runs to the phone and dialing her number and telling her everything tongue.gif *

Yup. Tell her to research the topic of transexual issues thoroughly. To be able to get access to surgery and hormone therapy she will have to convince a panel of experts that this is what she really wants, and it's not a phase (psychaiatrist, and other doctors). And it will take years. I've read about it, and to be able to do the final operation (genitals) she needs a history of at least 2 years of testosterone therapy, and multiple recommendations from doctors and family.

Good luck to your friend, she's lucky to have such an understanding friend like you cool.gif
