these past few days, my gums suddenly swollen up and i have this pretty big cut on my lip from the braces. there are also many smaller cuts on my gums. i also gotten like a cankersore(i think thats it is). my braces have been on for a year and a half and theyve never hurt this much.
i usually ignore my dental hygiene i.e. eating chocolate after brushing and then going to sleep and sometimes forgeting to brush. i rarely use the bands that my orthodontist gives me (bad idea) i recently became aware of this. (im too stupid to notice <.<)so i started brushing my teeth HELLA one night like for 30 minutes. i also did this the next night.(bad idea) maybe thats why my mouth suddenly hurts.
anyways how do i cure this mini cooperfest of mouth pain? i already took ibuprofen. is there anything else i can do?

Swollen gums = probably gingivitis from you being filthy and not brushing before bed. I thought people with braces were supposed to clean their teeth more often then others. The excessive brushing wont help. Not all in one go anyway. You need to practice better dental hygiene and brush after every meal. Also try some mouthwash. If that doesn't help just wait till your next check up with your orthodontist and consult with them. Well done, hope you're enjoying it lol.

To settle down the swelling gum, you hafta floss, not just brush.
Flossing for like, a week made my gums healthy agen, and they weren't that swollen.
As for cuts, you hafta ask for a gel from your orthodontist to relieve the pain.
Canker sores are normal, get used to them haha

FYI, if your gums are still swelling and sore after that, you better prepare yourself some aspirin as I had to get my gums cut off twice.

mouthwash would help to decrease the bacteria in your mouth. i recommend listerine vanilla mint as it's less intense as the other flavors. your swollen gums could be a combination of gum disease of the moving of your teeth but in your case, it's most likely gum disease. you really need to take care of your mouth unless you want to have your gums cut or teeth falling out. regular brushing for 30 minutes isn't going to make things better. if you really want to make a difference, you need to brush after every meal and morning and night. then floss then use mouthwash. then during your next dentist appt to tighten your braces, ask for a deep cleaning. i really recommend mouthwash.
