so i messed up this semester in terms of buying books so far
i got mine all at the bookstore.
bad idea i spent 700+ dollars.on two textbooks and 18 books:"(

i noe theres already a textbook advice thread
but like even so.
if you buy all online and stuff how much do u end up using? and how much do u usually get back when you sell back?

I spend at least 300 U.S bucks and that's with buying it online..and sometime I can't afford to wait to receive books so i must go to the book store

i'm an incoming freshman and i'll be going by quarters and so far i've spent $120. still need about 4 more books though :/ always buy from somewhere else and past students! the bookstore is a rip-off

They're all used or rented books though and an iClicker and MyArtKit web program

For selling back books it usually depends on whether or not the bookstore has met they're quota for a particular book. If it is not met then the buyback price is usually around 75% of the original publisher price (and that's if it's in good condition). If the quota is met then the buyback price will lower considerably. I suggest selling back books as soon as classes are over or right after finals when you're done using them so you can get the highest offer you can.

I'm a freshmen this year and go by semester. So far I've only spent about $130 and I think I'm done for this semester at least. My friend spent a little under $200. Surprising, I got some of the cheapest books at my school book store and they're new...

Future suggestions I have is split the cost of books with your friends/roomie if you have to buy the same book and have the class at different times/days. If you need the book quick for the class and want to order it if it's cheaper, ask someone, a friend, whatever, if you can borrow the book and scan/make copies of the book (it'll also give you an excuse to make friends). My boyfriend's brother got through the first couple of weeks doing that.

120 this quarter. I need probably at least one more text, but this one textbook will last me 3 quarters. Ochem, brand new. Last year I spent maybe... no more than 350 for 3 quarters.

Usually around $300 per semester. My major is related to English, so most of my textbooks (cause they're usually novels or something) are pretty cheap luckily.

700-800 each year and since textbooks change almost every 2 years, i can't sell some of my newly bought books.
It's as if tuition wasn't expensive enough, they make us buy books which many times, cant be resold

Books can cost up to $200 each.. so yea. Used books average around $100 I think the US sells their textbooks for less? I don't know... but Canadian bookstores are seriously ripoffs (especially my school)

i usually spend $200+ on used books from other places. i was a fool during my first semester and bought most of my textbooks from the bookstore because i couldn't find them anywhere else. don't sell your books back to the bookstore after you use them. even if you lose some money when you sell them back to classmates or online, it's still a lot better than selling them back to the bookstore.
