I'm just curious, since most of our parents are old fashioned, they often tell us not to do this, not to do that and remind us of values and traditions THEY learned from their parents. so what traditions/beliefs/values/habits does your parents constantly remind you of?

Here in the Philippines,My parents..

1) Girls should NEVER be the ones going to their boyfriends/suitors house unless it was something important. They say that it's not that 'good to look at'.

2) Boyfriends should do their courting at home and should make their intentions clear.

3) No going out alone with a boy.

haha notice that all of those contained 'boys'. well, my parents are very protective of their daughter's wink.gif

4) oh, and my grandmother believes that it's bad to give out money at night.

I'm sorry if this was a repost wink.gif I was just curious biggrin.gif

My parents are filipino too....unfortunately lol

-Keeping a good reputation, meaning no drinking, no smoking, no clubbing, no getting drunk, no "dressing provocatively". Especially since im a girl apparently. But im at uni...which is 4 hours away from home, so what they dont know cant hurt em wink.gif

-No sleepovers with guys.

-Never being alone in a house/the same room with a guy...unless its in the living room or kitchen (where anyone can just walk in and out). Bedrooms are a definite no no.

-NO sex before marriage. Theyre an absolute pain with this one... Incase i get pregnant rolleyes.gif they dont give a crap about condoms or contraceptives, its just plain and simple no sex.

-With boyfriends, theyre pretty strict... He has to have a good family, needs to be well educated, have good manners. Apparently theyve got 'look' criteria now as well...They don't like me seeing Filipino guys unless theyre "mestizo" or good looking. Absolutely pathetic. Talk about shallow eh?

-Being polite 24/7 and having good manners.

-Eating as a family round the dinner table.

-Having a good cleaning routine (basically having a clean house 24/7) which is pretty much the opposite of my dorm room lol

-Going to church, praying and being a good Christian.

-Being careful with money and not spending money I dont have.

Thats pretty much all I can think of for now... Oh and my parents use the "not good to look at" excuse all the bloody time, with pretty much everything I do dry.gif think they say "pangit tignan" in tagalog? im not sure lol imo, theyre a bit TOO preoccupied with what other people think about them. Drives me mad... Why cant i just live life and be happy?
its crazy, how its all just a feeling .

1. Don't wash your hair 1 day before Chinese New Year. >_> [But I did LOL]
2. Don't go to a guy's house without having their parents in the house.
3. Don't give your phone number's to guys.
4. Don't cut your nails or toenails at night.
5. If you eat too much eggs, you'll turn stupid.

I think that's all I can think of. :3

A whole bunch of outdated social norms like guys are expected to pay for the girl, guys are expected to hold the door for the girl, etc etc.

i'm hmong and my parents tell me lots of things that sometimes don't make sense to me.

1. no whistling at night--- it's like calling a ghost or something (but i do anywaise)

2. US WOMEN have to do all housework--- mopping, cooking, cleaning, etc

3. when you're pregnant, don't go to the beach--- From what i heard, you get a miscarriage if you do. like the water took ur baby.

4. when we have our traditional New Year thingie, we can't use money for three days--- during those three days, we are making "money" boats for ancestors and something else that i don't really get why we do it.

5. don't cut ur hair at night---Dunno why..

6. Put a stuffed dog at ur bedroom door or any other door, it's suppose to protect you from the ghosts--- i don't have one though

7. and then the other traditional hmong stuff--- Ua Neeg and Hu Plig (it's kinda hard to explain, it's a traditional thing we do)

8. after giving birth, the mother eats Chicken, REALLY soft rice, and drinks hot water for a WHOLE month.

9. spend ur money wisely

10. don't do anything stupid.

hehehe..that's all i could really think of right now..xD

credits to kickazzkris for the beautiful avatar..xD

I'm Chinese. This is just something from staunch Chinese parents.

No girls.

No drinking

No sleepovers

No games. Too bad.

No smoking

No Africans (My parents are racist),

No White Devil, Lol (Racist, but more racist to above statement).

No unnecessary spending (Too bad, lol).

No getting sick.

No disobeying them (Yes, because listening to people who do not make sense is very wise >_>).

No arguing because they are always right.

No talking about, and when I do, they change the subject because they know I'm right, lol.

I can sooo go on the entire day, but I don't want to get banned for spamming. Lol
