First of all, let me say I'm a noob at things like this, so please teach me thoroughly! biggrin.gif
I'm supposed to edit a video for my class but my file is .mov which isn't supported by WMM.
I tried using Any Video Converter and the file changed, but then I have another problem.
What is codec?!
When I try to put the video in WMM it says that it cannot load because the codec isn't ticked in the option box?
I don't understand. Tried going through the vid's properties but I still don't have any clue.

Somebody please help? ):

^ Have already found out the solution for the above problem, thankyou (:

But now, I need help as I can't change the file so that it becomes suitable to upload to youtube, can somebody help me please? ):

A codec lets you play a video file in Windows Media player. Videos like divx, xvid, Real, and Apple ones aren't natively supported by your computer. It would try to play the file but it wont be able to open it. So you need a codec which has the information needed to open the video file. I still like klite codec pack http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_lite_codec_pack.htm but there are many out there.

It may be easier to just convert the MOV to a WMV file instead, then movie maker won't need the codecs to play the file.

download real alternative along with CCCP. everytime i reformat a computer from scratch, those are the 2 things i download and everything plays.

Real Alternative is media player classic with .rm/rmvb support and other real player codecs.
CCCP is divx/xvid/mkv etc.

install both and try playing the video using media player classic.

VLC is another alternative.

It sounds like they want to edit a video, so they shouldn't use VLC... VLC will play it but it won't give them what they need to edit video. Real Alternative is good to get though... real player used to drive my antivirus nuts.

youtube automatically converts from standard formats (avi, mpeg, wmv, etc) to their format, the flash based flv format, the best videoconverter i've used so far is http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/ though i'm not entirely sure if it supports flv

if your internet speed can handle it, its best to just upload the movie to youtube and let their servers automatically convert it to their own format

heres a link to what formats they prefer

if you need anymore help contact me via instant messenger (msn, aim etc) and i'll walk you through it

Windows Movie Maker files are not video files and won't upload to youtube...

Click on the Windows Movie Maker file and your project should open up in movie maker...

Then click "File" > "Publish movie..."

Select "This computer", name the video, choose where to save it and choose best quality for this computer...

The output will be a .wmv file and will upload to youtube...

^ Thanks for helping, but I can't seem to find what you said. There's no such word as Publish movie under the File option? I'm really confused, o_o
