So, I watched The Thorn Birds recently, and I can't believe that someone told me that it was the ultimate story of true love, when all I saw was an ambitious man toying with the emotions of the girl who loved him for her entire life.

Other stories that I've heard called 'so romantic' or that they represent 'ideal love', but I have personally rejected as such are 'Love in the time of Cholera (the movie, it may have been handled better in the book, I don't know)' and 'Twilight' - obsession is not love.

Stories that I do think represent my type of love story are 'when harry met sally' and 'pride and prejudice'.

What about you guys? How do you rate fictional love stories?

Pride and Prejudice is good .. because of the whole element of the two of them falling in love unexpectedly

I suppose my type of love story would be like either sweet tales of the couple growing with each other [can't think of a title right now] and/or the ideal, almost-bordering-on-fantastical type of love [à la The Time Traveler's Wife...freaking love that book] where love transcends and overcomes all even time and stuff.

I really like the Time Traveller's Wife also. I thought it was interesting how they were fated, and how neither one chose each other, yet they both chose each other, ie. that Clare knew she would marry Henry before Henry met Clare, and yet Henry knew he would marry Clare before Clare met Henry.

I would say The Notebook..
how when they were separated, they still loved each other so much for such a long period of time, and how Noah still did everything to fulfill her wish of her dream house even when she was gone, and blah blah tongue.gif LOL

and I agree on The Time Traveler's Wife too!
it was really touching smile.gif like how they were meant to be
stay lovely.Posted Image
