I see this cliche getting thrown around a lot. So how does one find oneself? What does this really mean? I mean, haven't you been yourself all along? Usually, they say to take a long journey of self-discovery, meaning a long trip in which you'll find yourself along the way somehow. Has anyone ever experienced self-discovery or gone on such a trip? What did you get out of it and what did you learn about yourself?

I was inspired to make this thread after watching "The Most Distant Course." ph34r.gif

As you grow up, you start to pick up on the things you want and the things you really value. Sometimes, it takes a great deal of circumstance to really figure out what kind of a person are you and how you truly view your own self.

So basically it's just living your life and learning from life experiences? Then you don't need to undertake any kind of journey.

This is a good answer. Don't go with what KanyeWEST said. He's just being an idiot who wants attention.

No literal "journey", no. It's all about the figurative journey. Things happen in your life, and you grow older, meet more people, have more experiences, and you make decisions based off of the things that you have learned because of the past ones. You learn to make good decisions because of previous bad ones, for example. This is what is described as the "journey". It could be a multitude of other things as well, I'm just giving you an example so that you can better understand, maybe.

I think my life and myself as a person has changed drastically in the past two or three years. This is a journey of mine.

i echo this.

it's basically living your life. along the way, you will know yourself better and you will know better how you work with yourself. along the way, you build your identity and character along with your morals and values.

Growing up is part of it, but it alone won't help you.

This is one the biggest questions you really have to ask yourself: have I really been myself all along?
For most people, the answer is probably not YES.

You can say "well I CHOSE to act a certain way on my own, not because of external pressures" like perhaps what you wear, how you talk, your future career, your morals and beliefs.

Nope, no journey whatsoever. The only thing that would count as 'your journey' is your journey through life and how you survive the things life throws at you when it's unexpected. Remember that no one knows yourself better than you do.

well, most people are themselves but they dont now everything about themselves.
i think it's understand why you do things, why youre attracted to stuff/people, how you act when ____, and etc.
to really know AND understand yourself inside and out is a feat most people havent accomplished.

LOVE out LOUD.

What they said. I'm trying to find myself. Except I shouldn't even be 'trying'.

Realization..
Most people are unhappy with their life because they aren't living it to their full potential.
You only have one life. Why stay back?(insecurites) Do what you want to do.
