I'm thinking of buying a car, which car is faster?

Audi R8 or GTR?

Do not flame, answer the question.

The question's vague and open to interpretation. Are you asking for concrete figures or just people's opinion?

What do you mean by faster? Do you mean 0-60 MPH? 0-100? 0-150? 1/8th mile? 1/4 mile? Top speed? Lap time around a track (and what type of track)? Faster to get a girl's attention?

If you're asking about solid data, you're better off reading magazines like Road & Track and comparing results. Though it differs from publication to publication since each publication looks at different things (emphasizing more luxury, performance or gee-whiz tech). I wouldn't trust the results of Top Gear: while the show is entertaining to watch, their testing and reviewing practices make them out to be a bunch of hacks (they're less about actual journalism than they are about sensationalism and showboating).

Me personally, I'd go for the Audi R8. I prefer it's mid-engine layout, lower weight, and I prefer either the V8 or V10 engine as opposed to the GT-R's turbocharged V6. But that's just going off of paper specs... I've never driven either (and I suspect most others in this forum haven't either). But the C6 Z06's raw design specs has more appeal to me.

In terms of the Nurburgring lap times, the R8 is a hell of a lot slower than the GT-R (almost 40 seconds slower), even slower than the Porsche GT-R run when they accused Nissan of Lying about their time, and even then STILL slower than the Cadillac CTS-V, and that's a SEDAN.

I can appreciate the R8 for what it's worth, but the GT-R is quicker, and much cheaper to buy,

Holy crap, I didn't know the CTS-V was that badass.

GTR is definitely cheaper. But looks wise, I say the r8 looks way sexier than the GTR.

That's the advice I can give. I don't know much about the speed of the cars. tongue.gif

I'm looking for: speeds from 0-60, and also lap times around a track.

What kind of tracks?
Just general tracks that are oval shaped.

I know the GTR is cheaper, but i think the r8's looks are worth the extra money.

I believe the GT-R is faster than the R8 in 0-60. But also remember the GT-R has to get Turbochargers to kick, whereas the R8 does not.

usually when people buy these types of cars... they already know how to do research themselves

also the g can already run mid 13s stock and the hks intakes adds an estimated 10 extra hp and the exhausts add like 8 so yeah it should shove off about 1.5 to 2 sec off my times

Ever try google?
It would help a lot more and would provide much more information about both cars. Plus you were very vague on your question.
I'd pick the R8 because it's more of a luxury car compared to the GT-R tho i love them both equally. But the Gtr does have a backseat so it would also be tempting.

I dont think this guy is for real lol.

GTR is faster in every single way, no matter how you compare it.... unless you want to see how fast you can make shallow girls drop their panties for you, in which R8 will win hands down.

Speaking of which, R8 for me. biggrin.gif

Which R8? The V8 one or the V10?

The V10 will smoke the GTR in a straight line, and the GTR will smoke the V8 in a straight line

Plus you're comparing a $115-150k car to an $85k car.

and u are comparing straight line races like it really matters. Still, get the R8 atleast u can have fun with it without voiding warranty.

if straightline doesnt matter he can get a GTR and avoid using the launch control and have a better handling car

regardless, chances are hes not gonna track it, probably not buy it (lack of replies + no prior research?), then again... someone who doesnt track it, is only going to show off on roads and in that case, yes straight line is all that matters lol.

Obviously performance wise, the GTR takes the cake. But in terms of looks, I honestly think the R8 wins that category. Of course, if I were given a choice I'd ttake the R8 cuz I've always been a fan of it.

So, you gonna race those cars or what? Why else would you buy a car solely based upon it's speed?
