Anything that interests you, it's good to go out and meet people of common interests

On-campus apartment.

2. Cost of tuition/how much they paid:
Tuition, not including room & board and fees, depends on what program you're in & whether or not you're taking professional courses, it's generally around $20,500.

Ratio depends on class size. Class size depends on major & year in program. Liberal arts & upper-level courses are around 20-35, while pre-req classes like Chem or Bio can have 200+.

1. Live in dorm/apartment/home?
Apartment

2. Cost of tuition/how much they paid:
About $24,000 a year with room and board

3. Teacher to student ratio and class size:
Class size are usually around 26 students per class, though no class at my school will enroll more than 30 students in a class

4. How do your classes work?
You go to class, you learn, then you leave.
3 exams a year (sometimes 4, depends on the professor). With some classes, there are mid-terms, but for my major, there are literally no such thing as mid-term exams (yay!)

5. Any clubs or programs you suggest:
Nope.. any club will be a rewarding club, as long as you put in the effort to make the club successful and the effort to meet new people

6. Do you get to go out a lot?
Depends on the criteria of the week. Do I have a lot of work to do? Have I gone out this week so far? How much money do I have?
I go out on a so-so basis. I like going out, but I don't need to go out every single night in order to feel independent and free (not to mention keeping myself in a good mood)

7. How much free time do you have?
As I pass each semester.. less and less of it. It isn't that there are more courses, rather the courses I'm currently taking are some of the most demanding courses at my college

8. What do you spend most of your time doing?
I'd say there was a point in my college life where I was playing poker on an every-other-day basis (no exaggeration.. I counted the number of times I played, and it was 15 times in 31 days). I also love watching movies, watching TV, exploring the city (In Boston, exploring is great), spending some time with friends, and.. well.. basically, EVERYTHING. Bowling, pool, swimming, you name it. I guess that is the luxury of living in the city

9. Campus --- environment and geography (too spread out, etc.)
Oh, my campus is.. extremely small. I can go from one side of the campus to the other in less than 10 minutes (a tad over 5 minutes). I want to transfer to Northeastern (a block away from my current school) where the campus are huge.
But overall, I enjoy the small campus feel. Walking to and from classes, I meet my friends walking by all the time

10. Lot of rich students?
Nah, my school is extremely cheap in comparison to the tuition of the schools in Boston or surrounding Boston (Boston University-40k, Boston College-30k, Northeastern-40k, MIT and Harvard- 40k, etc, etc!). Most residents of the New England area opt to go to school at my school in order to save money

11. How are the meals?
Terrible.. but I cook every night, so after my first year, it hasn't been a problem at all

12. Are you required to sleep in your dorm?
If you mean required to live in dorms on campus, then no. My school has recently made a transition from a dominant-commuting school to a very well mix of commuting and on-campus living school

13. Is there a lights out time for dorms?
Nope. No curfew at all

14. Do people disturb your sleeping?
Not at all. The people here are very considering of sleep and time

15. Living at home: do you regret it?

16. Living at home: do you feel left out?

17. Best thing about college:
Seeing how far you can push yourself and seeing how far you've progressed as an adult

18. Worst thing about college:
Finals week.. 'nuff said..

19. About how much do you spend a month:
Too much. I spent as much as $240 a month on groceries alone, and the things I do around the city takes a bunch out of my pay

20. Do you have a job?
Yep.. work study

21. If so, how many hours do you work
About 16 hours a week. Nothing too extravagant

22. Does ti get in the way of studies?
My job is to be a lab monitor, and currently, the club is just getting started. Basically, I either sit there and study for 16 hours a week, or I leave early since nobody comes to the lab

23. Toughness of classes compared to high school
Much tougher. In order to get As, you must actually study and create new study habits

24. Do you call parents often?
No, they usually call me

25. Do your parents give you allowance?
Not really.. unless you consider my parents sneaking a few hundred in my pocket whenever I leave for college (or when they visit me)

26. Things/habits to avoid:
TELEVISION. Seriously, television is the single most destructive thing that can interfere in your studies (from my experience!). Also, procrastination and skipping classes. After I booted my procrastination and starting going to every class, my grades improved dramatically

27. Did you gain the “freshman 15”?
Yep.. and when I realized I had gained the freshman 15, I lost it all within a month, then ended up getting into better shape

28. How are your teachers?
Some are great, some are good, some are ok, and some are downright terrible. Basically, a wide range of professors. I'd say I've encountered 3 terrible professors, 6 ok professors, 2 good professors, and perhaps 1 or 2 great professors. How proficient you become in college will be solely determined by you, not your professors

1. Live in dorm/apartment/home?
Dorm

2. Cost of tuition/how much they paid:
Tuition : $4,545.22 (total of fall and winter). Nontuition charges (room & meal plan): $9,273.06

3. Teacher to student ratio and class size:
1:500 at least, in psych/bio/math it's 700-1000 students to one prof at a time; but in bio there's rotation prof schedules so there's like 5 profs.

4. How do your classes work?
I have lectures for every class, that's just where you go and the teacher teaches you stuff from the text and also adding in other stuff that are more specific but isn't included in the text. There are tutorials for every class also, but most of them don't require you to go (there are official tutorials, which you sign up for: I only have one in math where I take my quizzes and go over the homework questions/answers that aren't included in the text). And then there are labs (for sciences), and they happen once a week every other week, but they usually last 3 hours. In both labs and tutorials, the number of students are dramatically less of course (around 30). There's also rotation teacher schedules too, where each unit is covered by a different prof depending on the class.

5. Any clubs or programs you suggest:
Asian clubs! It's just easier to hang out with people who speak your language and know your culture imo... and it's easier to make friends with them. Especially if you're Korean, there's a "church" group.

6. Do you get to go out a lot?
Well, yes if I wanted to lol. I have a lot of spare time, but that's because I do things ahead of time most days. Finish your work, and then go play if you really want to. There's lots of things to do at night.

7. How much free time do you have?
Mondays: end at 11am
Tuesdays: end at 12pm, but have another class from 6-8pm
Wednesdays: end at 11am, depending on the week, have a lab from 6-9pm
Thursdays: end at 12pm
Fridays: end at 10am

8. What do you spend most of your time doing?
Making notes and lounging.

9. Campus --- environment and geography (too spread out, etc.)
It's located in the downtown core of Toronto. It's pretty spread out but it's really easy to navigate once you get the hang of it.

10. Lot of rich students?
Hmm... I don't know lol. We're more middle-class to upper middle-class.

11. How are the meals?
Really good at my residence! It's buffet style, and since it used to be a hotel, the food's awesome.

12. Are you required to sleep in your dorm?
No, you can sleep anywhere. But in order to access my residence, you need a key card/identification card to get by security.

13. Is there a lights out time for dorms?
There's quiet hours.

14. Do people disturb your sleeping?
Well my neighbours next to me don't attend my university; they attend a design college so they get more free time and love the nightlife. But they try to be quiet, but sometimes it's unavoidable when they slam their doors (not meaning to, but I think their doors are broken and can't close quietly like other doors).

15. Living at home: do you regret it?
I don't live at home.

16. Living at home: do you feel left out?
N/A

17. Best thing about college:
The freedom to choose what to do.

18. Worst thing about college:
Since people here are trying to find themselves, they don't really care about you. It's not like high school where you can be close to just about anyone in school.

19. About how much do you spend a month:
Not much since I live in residence and have a meal plan.

20. Do you have a job?
No.

21. If so, how many hours do you work
N/A

22. Does ti get in the way of studies?
N/A

23. Toughness of classes compared to high school
It's not that tough if you have good profs/TAs and keep up with the work.

24. Do you call parents often?
I try to once a day.

25. Do your parents give you allowance?
Not necessarily lol; everytime I visit home they'll give me at least 200 for nothing.

26. Things/habits to avoid:
Procrastinating! You need to make notes/read ahead of time so it's easier the second time when you have to study for an exam. It's also really easy to skip classes but you should try avoid doing so.

27. Did you gain the “freshman 15”?
No, I actually lost weight.

28. How are your teachers?
Since some are wellknown in their fields, some of them are snobby and hard to approach. They make fun of students who ask "stupid, obvious" questions and refuse to answer those types of questions (never had the experience myself but it's probably because I rarely ask questions). There are others who are totally cool and friendly, and they really love to teach and help their students. I love my psych prof.

I attend the University of Toronto at the St. George Campus.
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
Even though I really loved you
I'm gonna smile 'cause I deserve to.

Five-day timetable. Mostly 2-hr tutorials and lectures.

18. Worst thing about college:

Competitiveness and type of students.

19. About how much do you spend a month:

Close to S$200.

20. Do you have a job?

Nope.

21. If so, how many hours do you work

NA.

22. Does ti get in the way of studies?

NA.

23. Toughness of classes compared to high school

Not much of a difference.

24. Do you call parents often?

I live with them so there isn't a need to.

25. Do your parents give you allowance?

Yes.

26. Things/habits to avoid:

Slacking.

27. Did you gain the “freshman 15”?

28. How are your teachers?

The economics teachers are good. There's nothing much to rave about for the others though.

Drexel University

1. Live in dorm/apartment/home?
Dorming

2. Cost of tuition/how much they paid:
Slightly over $34,000, Dean's scholarship of $11,000 (other financial aid as well)

3. Teacher to student ratio and class size:
The average is about 25. Only 3% of classes have more than 100 students enrolled and those are the lectures. In addition to lectures, we also have recitations where the classes are smaller and the teaching assistants will go over the information covered and homework.

4. How do your classes work?
For most subjects, I have lecture, recitation, and labs. In lecture, there are over 100 students and the lecturer usually just talks and doens't take many questions. Of course, that depends on the teacher. Then, there are 1-2 recitations a week to follow up on the lecture where the homework is gone over or quizzes are given. For subjects such as biology and chemistry, there is also a lab.

5. Any clubs or programs you suggest:
Personally, I'm not in any of the clubs here but I suggest joining the organizations that interest you. It's a great way to have fun and to meet new people who have similar interest.

6. Do you get to go out a lot?
Yep! But do so wisely! Time management is key!

7. How much free time do you have?
Let's just say I give myself a lot of free time. Haha..procrastination is a dangerous habit in college. Anyway, on days when I'm not working (work-study at the library), I typically only have around 4 hours of classes a day. It varies of course.

8. What do you spend most of your time doing?
Hanging out happy.gif

9. Campus --- environment and geography (too spread out, etc.)
The campus is not very large and not very scenic since we are in the middle of the city. It's an open campus but we do have a couple of areas where it's kinda nice. There's always security making rounds but of course, be wise about going out at night...travel in groups! I don't know exactly how dangerous it is compared to other schools. Haha

10. Lot of rich students?
I don't know but definitely not as many as say, Ivy League schools.

11. How are the meals?
Eh, the meals are ok. I feel like they need more variety but then again, it's hard to come up with good food. We do have the basic pizza, pasta, salad, sandwiches along with different cultural foods too. The freshman meal plan is crazy expensive though. I definitely don't anywhere near $22 a day (I think that's what it averages too).

12. Are you required to sleep in your dorm?
No, but there is a limit of 3 overnight guest per calendar month if you sleep over at someone else's. They will make exceptions if you let them know ahead of time of something.

13. Is there a lights out time for dorms?
Nope but there are quiet hours in which you shouldn't play loud music and stuff like that.

14. people disturb your sleeping?
Nope! My hall is amazing! The guys upstairs are usually pretty quiet too.

15. Living at home: do you regret it?
N/A but if I lived at home, I would definitely

16. Living at home: do you feel left out?
N/A but probably

17. Best thing about college:
The freedom and of course, friends!!

18. Worst thing about college:
Classes! Haha...what else?

19. About how much do you spend a month:
No idea...depends....but I'd say around 100 between stopping by Starbucks, shopping, going to movies, and going out to eat. As for food, our meal plan comes with 200 flex dollars that can be used at various campus restuarants and stuff so I don't need to use cash. Of course, at the start of each new term, textbooks are quite expensive so the cost of that month goes up.

20. Do you have a job?
Yep, a work-study job at the library. In fact, I'm working now. I really do like my job. Half the time, I'm doing homework or browsing the internet and I get paid! Haha

21. If so, how many hours do you work?
Last term, I worked 4 hours a day, 3 days/week, so 12 hours/week total. This term, I work 11 hours/week but still 3 days/week.

22. Does it get in the way of studies?
For the most part, nope! Like I said, I can do homework. I'd imagine it would interfere more if I couldn't. Haha...instead, it seems to interfere with my social life and dinner time! Haha

23. Toughness of classes compared to high school
Slightly tougher in some areas but not too much so. The exams are a bit harder and I think what makes the classes tougher is just the fact that procrastinating can cost you your grade. Unlike high school, you have very little grades so you can't afford to slip up.

24. Do you call parents often?
Fortunately, no!

25. Do your parents give you allowance?
Nope, but if I ask for money, they'll give it to me.

26. Things/habits to avoid:
Drinking!! Don't become a alcoholic
The biggest thing is procrastination!!

27. Did you gain the “freshman 15”?
Nope...well, I gained 6 pounds. I've always had no problem maintaining my weight though. I had problems gaining but all of the clothes that were loose on me are still loose. I'm sure some of it is fat but I think a good chunk of it is due to toned muscle. Now that I'm at college, I walk everywhere and all the time, even just for fun with my friends so I'm much more in shape. I use to get NO exercise at all.

28. How are your teachers?
Well, obviously, there are all sorts of teachers. Usually, they won't take any crap. Most of the time, they're very nice but unlike in high school or middle school (for me anyway), you can get some pretty strange professors. Hehe...it's pretty cool though!
