Something occured with me last night. I was walking in the streets downtown trying to get to a bus stop that will lead to where I wanted to go. I walked to a certain area of the city. I was going by a street to get to another place. Some black guy I passed by called for my attention. He told me to stop and hold on. I gave him my attention to see what he wanted. He offered to shake hands with me, which I did. Then asked me where I was going. I told him that I'm just trying to go home. He asked where I lived. I told him it was far away from where the city is. Here is what irked me. He asked me "where is your boyfriend?'. I'm like "what are you talking about?". He said "I know you have one.". I said "whatever" and walked away from him and moved on.

The guy seemed like someone who is poor and hangs around the streets. I want to ask. Why did he do what he did? Was he trying to mess with me or start something? Am I okay to think is a weirdo or a jackass coming to me like that? It was annoying and disturbing. What else could I have said to him?

I understand that you are bothered by it, but it's really useless to analyze the situation. It's impossible for you to know what the other person was thinking or why they did it, and even if you try to prepare something to say in case it happens again, chances are you will be caught off guard just like you were this time around. Chalk it up to the guy just being a weirdo and try to stop thinking about it.

Are you a girl knockblock? I always thought you were a guy. Anyway, I've seen a guy in my hometown that was like that. He'd walk around talking to random people saying weird things all day. You did what you did. Walk away. Forget about it and avoid it next time by ignoring.

I say you just ignore it...if you give people like that attention they bother you more...just pretend you didn't hear them and just walk by

just ignore him. i always ignore guys like that... it happens more often than not...
and okay, i'm not trying to be racist or anything, but why do black guys do this more than others? one time, my friend and i were walking to a bowling alley, and this black guy tried talking to us (and asked if we would give him money) so we just told him that we were in a hurry and walked past him. then lo and behold! he shows up at the bowling alley! and it just got creepy from there. so we just hung out at our lane with our friends at the lane but we kept watching him until he got kicked out for stealing lemon slices from the bar.

anyways, next time? i wouldn't shake his hand... man you don't know where it's been!

be very aware of your surroundings the next time you walk around that area (or in any place for that matter). you don't know what that guy is capable of doing. you may ignore him, but he may not ignore you the next time he sees you, and may do more than just a hand shake.

"Sorry, can't help you" is almost always the best response for any trash that tries to talk to you in the street.

99% of the time they're going to hustle you about how their car broke down / they lost their train ticket / they're down on their luck / etc. etc.

that's creepy!! @_@
If you were in SE asia, like in Indonesia, you probably would have died by now.
I read many cases of victims were hypnotized and robbed without them knowing, or even killed because they shook hands & had friendly conversation with random strangers like that.

to be safe, you should politely ignore if that happens again.

first off, if you're alone, that's dangerous.
AND you're far off from where you wanna get to.

i think he asked if you had a bf to see if you were alone?
and then rob you! attack you!!!! rape you?!
have you thought of these dangerous situation that you coulda been in?
honestly, even if he was an angel, please be aware of your safety.
you dont even know him.
of course he's gonna wanna get you to trust him first.

it's in the street, you dont have to stop for no one.

scary.

take care.

Best response is to never go near the person and ask from the distance "Can I help you?"
and if it appears that the person is just there to make conversation and you are uncomfortable with it than just reply...
"I'm sorry I thought you needed help with something. Bye" and just walk away.

First: I'm glad nothing worse happened to you!

But let me give you some advice: Don't give a stranger so much information like you did. He doesn't have to know where you are going to (at least tell lies, e.g. you're going to meet a friend or somewhere crowded) and he doesn't have to know where you live.
I suppose he wanted to check you out. e.g. if you have a bf. (yeah he knows you have a boyfriend? my ass! I mean, that was a trick just to find out I'd say)
noo don't tell em anything. He could have been trying to follow you or so sad.gif

He was just your run-of-the-mill loser/crazy person, I don't see why it should irk you. I'm sure you're not the only one who has dealt with him (or somebody similar). Just ignore it and go on with your day.

I crack up every time somebody says this because it's usually followed by an ignorant comment and/or sweeping generalization. There are creeps & slimeballs of all races.

Happens all the time in Chinatown. I never talk to them and just keep walking. Didn't your parents ever tell you to never talk to strangers? lol.

You have to be careful in this world these days, a few weirdos out there. I wouldve stopped also i dont lke being rude, but if get the feeling things are going south best to avoid the person.

I had an incident at the rail, from the corner of my eye i could see 3 guys and 1 girl, they were like watching me, so i left the rail station, they left also, then i thought that something was wrong, so i kept my distance and disappeared into the crowd, and i could see the fools looking around, but oh wells they lost me tongue.gif
