I'm a history major and been reading the textbook. The reading in this book is extremely low for the level, it sounds like an 8th grade text! They do not go into much detail about anything and use a limited vocab. They even refer to Pocahontas as an "Indian princess" which doesn't even exist. I looked threw my brothers texts (from around 200-2004) and it was a such a higher level. Could this just be difference in schools? Anyone else notice this with any of their books?

I honestly can't say the same for my textbooks. They are definitely not middle school level (except for the first chapter or so, which is sometimes pretty stupid and sounds like it was written for idiots who aren't even the same people the rest of the book was written for). I'm not in History, since I'm an Animal Physiology/Spanish double major, so most of my readings might almost as well be gibberish to the average eighth grader anyway, but yeah, definitely not books I would expect my brother in middle school to have to read. I know people who took first year History courses at my school and their readings were not at a low level, either. My Spanish literature and linguistics classes were definitely not assigning kiddie stuff for the readings.

It might be your school, but it might more likely just be the professor's choice of textbook for that specific course. I'm guessing it's an intro course and that not everyone in the class is actually a History major? Is the same true of higher-level courses' textbooks at your school in the same subject area? My school generally funnels people into different paths early on, so it's expected that most people in most courses actually have some facility for and background in the subject and some reason to take the class. Maybe the prof for that course is assuming that most people in the course don't have a solid background in the subject already or people complained about the previous textbooks.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

yeah it's depends on the professor's choices in reading, I had many that use "easy" text for those that struggle with reading and others don't will have books that are "challenging" xD
