2: how do you approach new people (when you enter a new school, for example, and you don't know anyone)
3: do you use any sort of "techniques"? (ie: dropping a pen, asking for the time, using schoolwork as an excuse, etc)

1. Female.
2. "Hi, I'm Joyce." Bland but simple.
3. Nope. I usually ask like.. "what's your major?" or something. Or just a random question like "how was your weekend?". Yeah I suck at approaching new people.

2. Hi, My name is ____ and I notice that we have _____ in common (or we're in the same classes... etc).
3. Just bring up something that is common to both of you. It's easy to continue with a conversion with them after that.

If I want to know them I usually say "Hey.. so what school did you go to before?.. oh I heard that school was *blahblah*" sometimes I'll just make a comment directed to them like "it's to cold in here" and they usually respond.

I butt into their conversations or just sit down next to them and talk to them about whatever is going on where we are.
No technique.

Hey, I'm Trinnie, I'm new to the school. *smiles* (actually.. i have the tendency to smile when I talk. so... smile the whole time...)
Technique: i beat them and threaten them into talking to me.

1. female.

3. If I'm in a new place I just talk to the person closest to me, grab them textbook if we need one, and compliment their stuff such as pen or pencils o.o " I like your pencil its yellow =] "

because Honestly, I never see any girls approaching any guy.
Like maybe some.
But really I've seen barely any.

Approaching in general. But it's more fun if it's the opposite gender right? =)
Cause then most of the girls that already replied would probably change their answer.

I wouldn't think so. Guys are much easier to chat up than another girl.

2. I look around the classroom to see where the empty classrooms are. Then I take my chances of sitting next to or near someone/people who I am more likely to get along with - those who are not loud and preppy (must avoid groups where people know each other already). I know it's not nice to judge people based on their appearance and behavior, but hey, I rather take my chances and get to know those people later (after I see how they are in class).
3. I will just turn to them and ask a question. For example, "hey, aren't you in the same program? the (blank) program?", "do you have an extra pen", "have you bought the textbook yet?" etc. Simple questions.
