The story’s protagonist, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will enable him to walk. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush jungle-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms, some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race, who are considered primitive, yet are more physically capable than humans. Standing three meters tall (approximately 10ft), with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Na’vi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora's forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence.
Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. The Avatars are living, breathing bodies that are controlled by a human "driver" through a technology that links the driver's mind to their Avatar body. On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake can be whole once again. Sent deep into Pandora's jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora's beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri, whose beauty is matched only by her ferocity in battle.
Over time, Jake integrates himself into Na'vi's clan, and begins to fall in love with Neytiri. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth, and the Na’vi, forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world.

I checked the TV show index, and there doesn't seem to be a Fringe thread. So I will gladly start it. wink.gif

Anyone watch the show Fringe on FOX, it's after the show House? I just started watching it recently. I've said a couple times I would start watching it and finally I did yesterday, and happy I did! It's really good imo! The show is a cross between The X-Files, Altered States, The Twilight Zone, and Dark Angel. I need to catch up to the second season.

Yes, I watch fringe but I am behind though.

I might grab the rest of the episodes from the internet during thanksgiving break.

I'll probably go see the movie when it is comes out even though I feel a bit iffy about it. Hopefully it delivers and turns out to be a good film.

My friend has been obsessed with this even before a single picture of this movie was out. It took them 5 years to make so...my friend has high expectations! biggrin.gif He has 6 different trailers on his iPod because they each reveal tiny diff clips (>_>;;) Honestly, even though AVATAR seems iffy to everyone right now, I believe its gonna have a lot of fans once those that watch it start RAVINGGGG about it :]

oh oh and he even researched the "best" place to watch it so we're gonna go eat and watch it at movie grill o=

I would like opinion of people who've been to both -- which is better? You guess it -- I want to decide where to see Avatar first.

So the hype for this movie is pretty high, but I thought the trailer sucks. People who are lucky to have already watched this movie are raving about it... so if this movie does well, it'll be due to the word of mouth, NOT the trailer... LOL.

It's getting really good ratings (86% at rottentomatoes). And supposedly, the CGI is fantastic and is "revolutionary."

The budget for this film is 500+ (promotion included)... so that would make it the most expensive movie ever made, I believe. But seriously, how the in the world did it cost 500mil to work on a movie is beyond me...
I really hope it doesnt flop and delivers well at the theatre because the director supposedly spent 15 years making it.... (a little after he finished Titanic).

I have only gone to watch films that I have really wanted to see and am willing to put more money into watching in IMAX. I can't say all of them have been worth it completely, but I wouldn't go watch just any movie in IMAX just because they offer it.

For Avatar, watch it at Imax.

For a romance comedy...don't.

This is one 3d movie I'm looking forward to watch because my eyes will have a visual feast at least that's what I hear. The storyline is solid apparently but I haven't watched it yet but I really think it will live up to the hype. Cameron spent 10+ years into this movie if a director invests that much time on a film then I expect nothing but the best.

Just back from seeing it. The story is predictable and simple, but the visuals are so beautiful. The experience wasn't as revolutionary as the hype made it out to be. It's going to win the effects oscar next year for sure, but I don't think Cameron will have a chance to say "I'm king of the world" again.

i didnt like it ... personally i thought it was boring.

my friends were all like 'OMG you HAVE to watch it, i seen it x amount of times & im going back to watch it again' but iono .. it didnt strike a cord with me.
it was veryyy predicatable like the previous poster said

& at one particular scene, i found it weird ... & overdone LOL , alot of the people in the cinema thought so too cos around us we could hear 'wtf' or 'hahaha' or 'thats wrong' =]

Which scene?

Many of the character developments were really sketchy and unconvincing. Like the mother's "teach him" instead of "kill him", and that copter chick's "I didn't sign up for this," and "I have to take some samples", and that to get back trust all you have to do is get a bigger, redder car, etc.

And you're right it's kinda boring because it's so drawn out. I guess the director wants to linger on the visuals that he so lovingly created (to the detriment of the story development). I thought it felt kinda like a National Geographic docu with Lord of the Ring appended at the end.

But the visuals! It kinda redeems it. If Titanic was, in James Cameron's own words, a "chick's film", then this one must be a "geek's film". Oh, and for some reason, that Grace's avatar looks frigging ridiculous with the clothes on LOL.
