If you go to Korea, you will see.. they all strive for natural look.... and their hair is not extreme teased and shaggy.... Even the 'ulzzang's that they are trying to imitate, does not do that!!!!! if you look at the pictures, its completly natural! (natural as in less make up.....) The hairs are really calm and pretty!!
I also hate when people make HUGE sidebang and pin it DOWN with a hair pin or something
What do you think about wanna be asians? I think they are doing it completely wrong.

honestly ,you're offending the entire world with that lol .
thats what their perception of being an asian is so let them be . plus, i dont see what's wrong with the examples of styles you listed because i think that's just personal preference . in fact, i would say you are pretty ignorant yourself .
is korea the only country in asia? no . is the entire asia made out of korea? NO .
the whole eyeliner thing might not be popular at where you are living but it is popular in certain parts of japan and taiwan . you korean like it natural- thats your style . and thats not to say that ALL koreans like it that way, am i right? i'm sure these girls saw one or two ullzang with heavy eyeliner etc and decided to do that look . even in your own country, you CANNOT assume that everyone has similar style . preferable style by the general public, yes, but if someone were to dress differently, i dont think it'll make him or her less korean or anything .
if you think your culture is 'wronged', why dont you post a video of yourself doing an ullzang tutorial and let us be the judge?
i am an asian myself and i really dont like you speaking on MY behalf with that 'they are completely doing it wrong' because seriously, if that's the style they like, maybe you should learn to respect a lil . not EVERYONE is going after YOUR definition of an ullzang .

agreed ^ .. i feel like most of those who do heavy liner seem to be influenced not only by ullzzangs but also by kpop idols and jpop idols.. and other idols.. =]
The same thing than those who want to look western.
the want of beauty is never going to change.. people will always strive to look a certain way and be influenced to look that way because of society and the media.. i dont mind if people like to look a certain way.. i dont even mind if they start talking the language or practicing customs.. but the thing that i DO mind.. is when they start to forget about their OWN religion, culture, and traditions..
but having their own style or just mickmicking a style IS being themselves.. they dont need to do something spectacular or stick to their societies usual practices to "be themselves" .. fashion is fashion and a style is a style.. its meant to be copied, its meant to have people like it and use it

Oh. okay, I'm going to have to play devil's advocate.
Disclaimer: I'm not bashing Japan, just using it as an example.
So I guess it would be so cool of me to be Japanese even though I'm Chinese. I shall dress like them, act like them, and even learn the language. Heck, if someone asks, I'll just tell them I'm Japanese. The actions will be justified since mimicking a person and/or race is actually being yourself. I'll be Japanese even though I'm not.

So being yourself is dead? If the only thing happening in society is people wanting to be something they aren't then I seriously give up on it.
Don't get me wrong, I can also see it from the opposing view. But I'd just like to hear your thoughts on how it's dead.

First of all, why would I make a tutorial of being an ulzzang? Ulzzang means best face, not the best make up. there is a saying, Pumpkin will not become watermelon by drawing lines.
I also appologize if I got carried away because I was kind of annoyed at that time. I just think that if you have some of your features that you don't like, you should improve it more natrually rather than going too radical. For example, I dont think people should put on such a thick eyeliner just because their eyes are small. Even though the title of the topic was wannabe asians, I guess I was pretty much talking about ulzzangs here (and so were you..). Ulzzangs are in Korea, not Japan or Taiwan. and to be an ulzzang, they have to be accepted by general people. If you put a same person in different style, natural vs. style I dont like, I bet that natural will win. Because I know for sure that, if you go out to the street like that in Korea, (extreme teased hair with huge side bang, and xtreme eye make up etc) it will NOT look normal. Especially if you are student, you will called a 'haw dduk nyu", which means "caked up makeup girl". I also dont enjoy changes, so thats why I feel resistant to these fashion. I was looking through ulzzang groups on facebook, and those were what I found. SOME people look very pretty with those make up. however, not everyone have same appearances as others. you should not just imitate them.......

Please, explain this.
Simple.
Because THEY say it is asian.

^ Mmm, really? Well let me tell you. Pinning side bangs down is not "Asian"
Anyway, I doubt those people actually want to be Asian. It's called trying different looks.
People do different things with their hair/clothes/makeup. It doesn't mean they want to be something they're not.
EVERYBODY does it.

It might not be, but from what I have observed, it occured to me that people who want to look asian does that. I observed that on youtube as well as facebook groups. Sorry if it is not.

In terms of hair and clothing, well white nor black people can't pull of an asian hairstyle (not in their genes) and by 'asian' I mean like crazy anime stuff, and clothing well it's their choice but I can't imagine a black person wearing asian clothing LMAO..
It just irritates me when people try so hard to be something that their not and never can be..

Um, no. The term is definitely Korean, but the general idea that it stands for is universal and has been around for a while. For example, I highly doubt that (most of) the good folks over at sites like lookbook even know what an ulzzang is, and yet they still have a set of internet celebrities they admire, not unlike Koreans and their ulzzangs.
Because THEY say it is asian.
Who exactly is "they"? Examples? Proofs? Because quite honestly, I've seen quite a few people with that hairstyle who really weren't trying to be Asian. In fact, they just saw it as "stylish".
OH, and I'm seriously confused. Who are you calling Wannabe Asians? Non-Asians or Asians that are trying to look like Korean Ulzzangs because you keep bouncing from one to the other.
Like here:
and here:
Btw,
People who follow the tutorials don't follow them thinking that doing so will magically turn them into an ulzzang. That's like saying that just because I follow a "how to get jessica alba's smoky eyes" tutorial, I firmly believe that once finished, I will actually have jessica alba's smoky eyes. That's just absurd. ._.
Hmm, hope that all made sense.
