This thought came into my head wondering about how my parents met. I don't know, but I would like to ask them when I get back from school because I'm curious. I did a topic search but nothing came up.

If any of you know or have bothered to ask, how did your parents meet? Did they even like each other at first? Was there a lot of drama? Was your dad a bad a$$in a leather jacket with spiked boots and too much gel in his hair who followed no ones rules, but your quiet, goody good bookworm mom changed him for the better? ok the last one was a joke.

share your stories or let the thread die. Whatever floats your boat champ.

my parents met through their math teacher. they had the same teacher. my dad was out of college and my mom was still in college (2nd yr of college i think). ummm at first, they didn't think twice about each other but then they met the second time and kept in contact and that's where it began, i guess. apparantly, they went to the same high school too...just didnt know each other.

My mom met my father the day she came to this country.

She told me how a relative of ours dragged her to a restaurant to meet my relative's friend and her son. My mom was really annoyed since she just flew in from Asia (I wonder how long it took back then!) and all she wanted to do was rest. It wasn't an arranged marriage though. My mom was going to go back while she was dating my father, but he asked her to stay and she did. Then viola! Marriage happened eventually.

That honestly made me "LOL" laugh.gif Too cute, haha.

My parents met through my dad's cousin. Mom was friend's with his cousin and she introduced them... and I guess my mom was extremely sheltered back then and the idea of an older guy with so much freedom appealed to her. But basically they dated and eventually got married and here we are now.

I love the story of how my aunt and her boyfriend of ten (or less?) years met. It's so much like a korean drama! Basically she was working for a company and his company was working as partners with theirs temporarily, but in any case, she hated his guts and whenever he called she'd give him an attitude and just acted like a jerk tongue.gif Then one day she had a document or file that she was working on late and forgot to turn it in to him since he was the main manager, and so she chased him down and he told her he'd accept it under one condition—that she would have coffee with him.

Then I guess her feelings for him changed after that cause she told me when he asked her, she felt that the "world stopped and there was just the two of them" which sounds pretty cheesy. huh.gif

At a party. Yup. And they stuck together because I popped out 8 months later.
They married in between before I was born.

My dad was getting his MD degree or masters in China, (one of those degrees) and he had to train in the hospital. The hospital where he trained at was where my mom worked as a nurse. My mom always say how she was pretty back then and only chose my dad cause he was the smartest out of all her "suitors" lol. Apparently my dad was crazy about my mom back then and would cry when he had to leave.

Now their relationship is ok, but it definitely went downhill after they married. They are just sticking together cause of me and my two siblings. Oh well, they lasted for 20 yrs now, they will just be an unhappy old couple. XD

My parents met on a boat while fleeing Vietnam to escape communism.
It's really romantic.

My friend's parents met because his dad was his mom's tutor in high school. smile.gif
So fanfic-like, hehehe.

um, i've heard lots of stories, i don't really know which one it is?? hahah well,

my mom said that she beat up my dad's younger brother (my uncle) looong time ago. she accidentally made him bleed so her mom (my grandma) made her go to their house to apologize. and then my two grandmas became very good friends. so from that story, i guess they knew each other since they were like, 6 or something?

but, i guess not too well. because their marriage was just kind of arranged. and my mom only had a couple months to get to know my dad before they got married. i think my grandmas decided to just pair up the oldest of each of their children together.

bad marriage, lots of fights, divorced in the end. not a very good relationship right now either lol

makes me sad that in the end it was a divorce cause i used to think it sounded like a cute story before i knew it was arranged. my mom beat up my uncle, they had to go apologize, my parents ended up falling in love...LOLL

but they were never in love. :/

My parents are probably really old school. They were arranged to marry. But then war broke out in Cambodia and my dad fled to Thailand with my mom's brother and my mom, her two sisters, and her mom (my grandma) fled here to America. My parents were basically separated for 8 years and during that time, my mom wrote letters to him telling him that she misses him (when they're practically total strangers). My dad never received any of the letters because my mom's brother took the letters and hid them because my dad was basically supporting him and he didn't want to lose that support (he didn't want to leave Thailand so he didn't want my dad to leave either). Towards the end of the 8th year, my dad was about to move to Australia, but didn't because he found the letters that my uncle took. So my dad saved up and came here to America to marry my mom.

Couple of years ago, my dad showed me the letters my mom wrote to him. I couldn't read much Chinese, so my friend read it and she said it's super romantic the stuff that my mom wrote.

My dad was at his best friend's wedding.
My mom was attending her cousin's wedding.

My dad's best friend was marrying my mom's cousin.

And they met there....my Dad never told me much, only that.

My parents worked for the same bank in Washington, D.C. a couple of years after my mother graduated from Georgetown and my father moved to D.C. to live with his eldest brother, sister-in-law, and nephew. My mother was a teller, and my father was a branch manager or something, I think. My mother and another teller who was a friend of hers used to fight over who answered the phone on the days my father usually had to call down and who got to deal with him when he came down in person, because they thought he was really good looking. Actually, my dad dated both of them around the same time for a while, but my mother won out because she was a lot more aggressive, while the other woman was more like my dad (more laidback, quiet, and indecisive). Too bad that was exactly why they ended up realizing they were a total mismatch of personalities that drove both of them crazy, which is one reason why the marriage only lasted about sixteen years.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

My parents met through connections - I think one of their friends set up a blind date for them. My dad was living in the U.S. at that time and my mom lived in Korea. They met, separated (not as in their relationship, but the distance between the two countries), exchanged lots of love letters (I read some on accident; came across it while I was looking at my baby photobook), then finally got engaged and married. I think they had their share of dramas too because my dad's mother disapproved.. ^^;;

My parents worked with each other and became friends. My dad liked her and eventually asked her out but she turned him down! He stopped going to work lol... well their boss was my dad's uncle and he would tease my mom about it and would say things like "He can't go to school, work, he can't eat or sleep, look what you've done to my nephew!" So my mom agreed to date him haha.

The funny thing though is my mom and my dad met through work with a 4 year age difference and so has my older sister and her boyfriend and me and my current boyfriend!
