Compared to other students in my high school (Lowell High School), I was not an outstanding student. My overall gpa was over 4.0, but that's quite common now. My SAT score was so-so.
What did you do for your extracurriculars?
I was in the school newspaper during my junior and senior years and participated in several clubs. I stuck with a few clubs for two years or so, while I was in other clubs for only a semester or two. I had a job during my senior year.
Did you really plan on going to Berkeley ?
Kind of. I only started wanting to go to Berkeley around junior year.
How do you like Berkeley ? Is it fun ?
I'm a freshman ;D I liked it a lot in the beginning, but, slowly, I've come to dislike school. Living in a dorm is totally worth it! (But a lot of the Berkeley dorms have coed bathrooms, unlike other UCs) It's fun for me because I like hanging out with my floormates and getting to know them. I don't party or drink, but other people do. The campus is beautiful and peppered with adorable squirrels. Academics is ehhhhhh. I miss high school so much!!! Enjoy high school! It'll be over in a blink.
Hope that helped
thank you
im considering on going there, but i don't really know my chances. i didn't really know if it was that competitive to get in. because they say that they are like a public Ivy League
Why cry? I'm a stronger girl now because of you. So, why cry?

I'm very interested in a lot of stuff, but I don't necessarily have an exact grounding on what to do in college. Some of the stuff I put down might change as months go by.
I am interested in East Asian Studies because for me, I personally rarely get the time to explore my culture. Even though I reside in the Bay Area, a very culturally diverse place, I don't feel I have a strong grounding to what my heritage is sometimes and I just want to be able to learn more about myself, and study abroad, and learn a East Asian Language (Chinese or Japanese).
at the same time....
I also have been interested in Civil Engineering. I have a somewhat odd interest in how buildings stand, how bridges are built, how subways work, etc., especially in Asia, where like so many beautiful skyscrapers are being built. It just amazes me over there and I just want to learn more about it.
Two differently related subjects, I know, but I don't know what options do I have. I don't know how long my interest in CE will last though, since you don't really get much exposure to Civil Engineering related material in high school, but every time I like watch a video about buildings or my physics teacher talks about something related to civil engineering or stuff like that (i.e. rotational equilibrium), I become interested.
I sound pretty complicated. Is it possible to double-major (I'm aware that double majoring can take a lot of time)? At the same time, I mentioned that I don't know how long my interest in CE will last though. I can tell you for a fact that my interest in EAS has been lasting for a long time. Given that UCB is "supposedly" great at both majors, what kind of advice you can give? Thanks!

I say if you are definitely interested in East Asian studies then do it for sure. I'm not too sure of how strenuous civil engineering is but if it is like any of the other engineering majors at berkeley, then you'll definitely have to be on task with your ce classes, which means starting them freshman year. I suggest you either double major or minor in one of them, take courses for both majors during your first year to give you a taste, and from there you should be able to decide whether ce is something you want to continue on with. If not you can easily drop it.
Double majoring will definitely be more work and there may be a chance that you will have to do 5 years BUT that's depending on how many course you can take each semester, although staying there 5 years is no big deal anyway. Hope this helps

oh, and our host allowed my group to peek in during a lecture in the largest hall? I don't remember the name. Wow, people even have to sit on the floor.. the host was kind of worried because she was afraid that we were going to be a disturbance, lol. We didn't stay for long anyway.
There wasn't enough time to go around and ask current students about school life..
