Does anyone know if this is based on a real story or is this just made up?

i just got back from watching this.. and it was terrifying. i dont know if i can sleep tonight
are the characters in the movie the actual people? cuz on imdb it said katie is shooting another movie

they used the actor's name as the character.. haha i guess to make it more "realistic"

i saw it last night. it kept getting sold out so my friends & i finalyl saw it at 9:45.
it did not impress me. the beginning was soo boring and i was getting dizzy.
then everytime it showed them sleeping i'd get excited cuz something scary was going to happen. but i did jump and scream once or twice so yay.
then at the end it got pretty good. when she was stnding over his bed that was sooo creeepy.
& i'm glad it's not "real" phew...
for some reason to me, the movie seemed like it was only 30 min yet it was 1 hr 40 min O_o

i was so freaked out from the beginning. but it slowly gets to you... and the ending, was just..
creepy..i watched half the screen.
the only thing that kept me calm was the people behind us yelling out random things.
and some guy saying "omg this is so freaky im going home" then he ran out. XD
im not sure how im going to go to sleep.
talking about this movie makes me want to cry..
@_@

Just got back from seeing it.. and i went in with an openmind and came out satisfied haha

it was rather slow in the beginning butonce things started to happen i was on the edge of my seat the whoole time. the ending was pretty crazy too.. and i think it's pretty amazing how it was scary but had NO music. if you think about it, most scary movies rely a lot of music to help build up suspense

^ I was JUST about to say that! Many (if not all) scary/horror movies heavily rely on "haunting" music or loud noises to build suspense n movies but I was really surprised to not see any for this movie.

Ew. For those of you who have yet to get on the Paranormal Activity "hype", DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!!

I say wait till it comes out on Redbox and spend $1 on it. The part where she was dragged out of bed freaked me out, ngl. But the rest was pathetic. I could not take the Katie girl seriously anymore when she held in her laughter the second time the guy came (priest? Idk). Did anyone else notice this part? Couldn't they film that scene over? It was supposed to be serious yet she held her smile. PATHETIC. Oh and that Ouija board scene is stupid and unrealistic. How the hell is that even possible?

All this movie left me feeling was dizzy and upset. I seriously only opened my eyes at the night scenes because the rest made me want to puke. Upset because everyone keeps saying it's so scary and so worth the money. YA RIGHT! I can't believe my friends and I drive to 3 different places and finally catch the 12:45AM show time. THUMBS DOWN! THIS MOVIE IS A COMPLETE JOKE!

ALWAYS KEEP THE FAITH.

It's a reenactment of a show about a haunting you'd find on the Discovery Channel or The Learning Channel. Lame. Good thing it was only $5 to see it and someone else paid for me. I was disappointed by it and I fell asleep for 10 minutes during the movie. It's not one of the scariest movies of the decade. What a hype. I must say... great marketing ploy though. For less than $15,000 they've made well over a million dollars. It's "Blair Witch Project" new millennium, just with less shakiness, better editing, and no close-up dripping booger nose.

Save it for DVD. You still get the same effect if you turn the volume up and turn off the lights.
I used to be snow-white, but I drifted.

One of the most idiotic movies I've ever seen. I can not understand how anyone can get scared by this movie. The extremely low budget shows, because I nearly fell asleep uncountless times in how boring this was. I'm not exaggerating when I say this movie was the biggest disappointment OF MY LIFE.

Don't waste your money on this, seriously.

I came out trembling after the movie ended. Paranormal Activity isn't exactly the best horror film and greatest film ever made out there it just left me paranoid again. Like most people, I couldn't sleep well at night/early morning. It's funny how I heard most people say that they were having a sleepover no matter what. Haha! We did the same thing as well. I had to wrap myself tightly under a blanket so that I wouldn't feel any breeze. Never again do I want to see this movie. When exactly did Katie get possessed? When she got dragged and got bitten?

Seems like there are alternate endings.

The original:
*SPOILER* A description from someone who had seen a screener of the film described a longer ending in which Kate kills Micah offscreen and then walks into the bedroom with a bloody knife. She then sits and rocks beside the bed for days (long enough that we hear the phone ringing and worried messages left in the background). Katie's female friend then comes to the house worried and Katie goes downstairs where you hear the friend scream. Katie comes back to the bedroom and continues rocking beside the bed as the counter records more days going past. Finally police arrive and as she approaches them with the knife they open fire on her and we fade out to the sound of police radios. It sounded much more unsettling than the ending I had seen and seemed to make better use of the dread that rendered the rest of the film so traumatic. The only thing that seemed off was the use of police - it seemed a little anti-climatic and risked providing too much closure.*SPOILER*

Another one:
*SPOILER*
This ending initially repeats what we see in the other two endings. We watch through the camera as the couple sleep. Then suddenly Kate sits straight up, gets out of bed, walks over to Micah and stands over him staring at him for a few hours. Then she walks out of the bedroom and we hear her going downstairs. After a few minutes tick off the clock, we hear Kate screaming. Micah wakes up, screams to Kate that he is coming to help her, and he darts out of the room. For the next few minutes you just see an empty bedroom with the ticking clock and you hear both Kate and Micah screaming and a lot of commotion like they are fighting. After a few minutes, the screaming stops and it is silent. After a minute or two of silence, you hear a loud stomping sound (like something very heavy is coming up the stairs).

From here, the ending diverges: Kate walks into the bedroom covered in blood and holding a large butcher knife down at her side. She walks into the room very heavy and stiff-like. She walks right up to the camera so that the upper half of her body is in the shot (but she isn't staring into the camera or looking at you, she's sort of looking downward), and then she simply pulls up the knife and slashes her throat in one quick, graceful movement, and falls down on the ground. The camera keeps rolling so we just see an empty bedroom for a few seconds and then the camera shuts off and the movie ends.
*SPOILER*

This is quite creepy.

^ ..that's creepy. but so awesome.. i wish they would show the alternate endings during credits or something lol

i think it would be damn creepy if the endings were combined lol.. so after Katie does what she does in the ending out right now, instead of attacking the camera, she smiles at the camera, gets up and stands next to his side of the bed for days and end with us hearing the messages on the answering machine. CREEPY.

Honestly this movie wasn't that scary as people have been saying. I was bored throughout the whole movie and could not stop yawning, only the ending was worth watching. I watched the movie expecting it to be some ridiculously scary movie that would leave me sleepless but it actually made me even more sleepy because of how boring it was. sad.gif

I think to those who saw the movie and and have actually experienced paranormal activity first hand, it hits close to home and the movie is a lot scarier. For those going just for the thrill of it to be scared won't find it as scary. The movie is more of a documentary type movie as it is filmed mainly by the two main characters, like a home-movie. That is one factor on why it's so scary: home video.

For me, I didn't even know what the movie was or that it existed. I went to the midnight showing here after my friend called me up to ask me to go. I'm a total fan of this kind of stuff so I was intrigued but I also terrified. This stuff exists in my culture and just knowing that and knowing that it has happened before... is beyond creepy.

I still sleep with the lights on.

I thought it was gonna be scary and stuff like that,
but when i actually went to watch it, it wasn't as scary as I thought .
there were only creepy moments, but not scary that i can't sleep at night..

Yeah, I personally found this movie incredibly scary because I've experienced something like this before, but obviously not even close to this extent.

It probably definitely affected a lot of people who have ever felt that sort of sleep paralysis where you can only more your eyes and it's happened a lot to my friends, including the whole dark figure at the foot of the bed or next to the bed.
