I have a funny story to share though, when I was around 2 I was on a bus with my mom and as we reached our stop. There was this pigeon or some sort of bird, and I was like 'MOM *points* IT'S A DUCK!' LMAO then this old lady came up to me and said that it's a bird (whatever bird it was) which made me feel like a dummy

Okay, well, a story... I was in Singapore this summer, and I rode on their train system right when we got out of Changi Airport. Beautiful country, the morning looked fabulous, watched the sun rise [Our flight arrived at Singapore at 5AM]. The problem is, we had no idea which stop to get off. So.... We rode the train system for three hours, went around the entire island, and ended up paying a bunch for the trip tickets. Haha. Very bad experience. [Hunger, jet-lag, being in a foreign country with people staring at you, all in a tramway ride.] >_< I still love Singapore though. Just not the tram system.

I go by bus every day and one thing is for sure; stay away from smelly people.
Best way to pass the time is either listen to music or read a book.
By train, never ever fall asleep. Your wallet will be gone in no time and don't be too obvious with your valuable belongings. It's also a great way to meet people... haha I got to know someone there ^^;

Don't stand up before the bus [or train] stops. Some drivers aren't very good at stopping so you get the abrupt stop, and you fall forward because of that. That happened to me once, but thankfully I had my friend with me. It was a winter day so we were decked in our scarves, hats, and mitts. It was our stop, and we stood up before the bus stopped. Bad move, because when it did stop, I felt myself falling forward. So of course I grabbed the nearest thing close to me and it happened to be my friend's scarf. Yeah, I choked her to save myself.

One time I was standing at the bus stop on a cold winter morning waiting for the bus. There were little puddles near the curb but usually the cars don't hit them. Suddenly, a car drives right in the puddle and splashes me a little bit on my boots. Lesson learned, I step back. A few minutes later, another car splashes me up to my knees. I step back even further onto the grass, at least 3 feet away from the curb. Later, another car splashes me all the way up to my chest. I swear the do it on purpose.
At my school there are like 50 kids who need to take the bus. When the bus is full they just pass up bus stops full of kids. The bus is never on time. One time, I was lucky enough to get on the bus. When I finally got off, I saw a crowd of kids at the bus stop ahead. The bus just sped right passed them and splashed them. It was pretty funny. I was just glad it wasn't me.
It's survival of the fittest at our bus top. On time the kids tired to run in through the back of the bus and the bus driver got angry and said he wasn't going to pick anyone up. Luckily, I was like the third person going in the front so I got a ride. Everyone else got left.
I have tons of stories.
For tips, I guess just make sure the bus runs regularly and have another bus route as well just in case. Yeah, being on time is important. I can't tell you how many times I had to chase after the bus. lol

I personally don't have any funny stories but my friend was on the bus once and he gave his seat up for someone who looked pregnant. The chick told him she wasn't pregnant and took the seat anyway. He was so pissed since he was tired that day. Haha.

bring music
and if u have a bag and you end up standing up, be careful not to keep moving and hit people with your bag lol
be careful if you're by yourself at the bus stop and some man starts talking you! even though they look normal!!! << you might think that thats common sense, but the moment it happs..you kinda dont know what to do.. they also attack groups of girls too these days!!
scary people these days...

They are basically just a way of transportation.
I had so many bad experiences though, this woman was trying to get off her stop (the bus was waaay full) and she couldn't wait until the bus stopped (pssh) so then she pushed her way to the front of the bus and somehow she fell on me and toppled my friend over as well.
Sure, you miss your stop, have weird people conversing with you or you oversleep, have to smell smelly people, lose/get stuff stolen, or the bus is too full, blah blah. but its regular everyday stuff that hopefully don't happen often. All in all, I don't think anyone should be worried about public transportation, the only tip I will be giving is listen to music to cure your boringness. :D

I had a gross experience that made never want to take the bus again =(
I was in SF with friends and we took public transportation so it was pretty crowded. I was last to get on and could barely make it up the steps when this old man brushes his hand against my butt as he passes me. I pass it off as an accident - cause I realize that this tends to happen, especially at crowded public places. When the bus starts moving he brushes his hand against my butt again so this time I'm like WTF? and I move away. More people come in and squish us together even FURTHER (the bus was literally JAMPACKED.) I was standing and there were people around me on all sides.. he was behind me and pressed his -AHEM- against me and I couldn't move

I used to sleep on the bus since I didn't have to transfer. It was about a 40 minute bus ride. But now that I have switched schools, I just space out completely. The bus to the subway station is the worst since the roads are bumpy. As for the subway ride, I usually just stare into space. I should study, but I get distracted by people getting on and off, and I need to transfer. I miss the good old days where I can just sleep on the bus and not worried about missing my stop since my instincts adjusted to the time to wake up.
Um, I realized that some people said that it is better to stay awake if you're a girl. I'm a girl and I used to sleep on the bus. i will listen to my music and I hug my backpack, so I was pretty much.. safe? I wouldn't sleep at night if there isn't "anyone" on the bus - sometimes they are just in the dark! If I slept, I will sit in the second or third row. Otherwise, during the day - especially during rush hours - it isn't that bad.
