Ah, thats really cool, I checked it out. How did you end up working for independent films, tell us your story!! Do you enjoy it? It is always nice to hear people making it in the world of film. ChainLetter looks cool but I"m deathly afraid of horror films >_<

lol, don't worry, most of your classes in the beginning will be generals so you have time to decide. But first were are you going to school? Does it have a good film program? Majoring in film regardless of what others say is a gamble. So take your time, take a few film classes, see how you like them. You have TWO YEARS to decide your major. No worries, most people who say they have a major going in to college change it before they graduate

What are the careers that are offered with this major? Both creative and management aspects?

A quick google of "film studies and careers" will give you the answer but from one site this is what I got:
But things like advertising, director, cinematographer, Sound/lighting, marketing, Journalism, film critic, Producer, cast director, etc. and many more
But it all depends on where you go. Film programs differ greatly depending on which college you go to. Schools like NYU, UCLA, and Florida State University, focus more on the production and technical aspects of film making while others may focus more on the theory of film. Always read the course description! Also two major components in film are networking and perseverance, its hard to blossom in film if your in the middle of nowhere and if you have no passion.

Yep, Media communications. My brothers girlfriend is currently getting her degree in communications and she used to work for WCCO-TV (Channel 4 news). I forgot her exact job title, something business related. (I'll ask her later).

Its cool! The animation program is relatively new and experimental (we only have 2 graduating classes from the undergraduate program). Its not like Calarts, where they mainly focus on hand drawn technique. Its very conceptual, though I kind of wish they'd put more emphasis on solid drawing skills. I mainly chose SC because I didn't want to be confined to JUST art/animation....I also wanted a more liberal arts education as well, and get a minor in business or something completely different from art.

So are you more into 2D or 3D animation? I'm at the University of Hawaii and they have a pretty new (but probably not as new as yours) program for film majors and it includes 3 tracks that students can take with their major: film studies, 3D design/gaming, or animation. I joined to learn about 3D visual effects and hopefully enter the commercial business but I liked animation more. We focus a lot on 2D since that's the foundation. I find 3D kind of hard though.
