I'm a psych major (thinking about double with business spec. in marketing) right now. I took a filler class about urban city planning for units and has nothing to do with my major or my choice of career later in life (thinking about teacher or marketing? ...i know its a far stretch but I'm still deciding). I ended up with a NP no-pass in the class.

I plan on going to grad school do you think that will affect me later on in admission? Won't they take my major or experience into consideration? Should I retake this class? It's hard for me because I don't have interest in it and I couldn't drop it becuase it was pass the drop date. Now I have to live with a horrible NP on my transcript! Is it true they view it as a F and calculate it into your GPA that way? Please anyone with experience let me know. And I'm looking into Pepperdine, but any grad school helps!

first off, yes a NP = F. it means that you did not pass the class, which translates into failing. (don't quote me on this, but i believe the reason why there is a limitation on how many pass/no pass classes you can take is because even a Pass is seen as a C) now each school may calculate it differently into your GPA but it will be seen as a fail.

grad school will look at everything, including your major courses, experiences, and grades. don't forget your letters of rec as well. what year are you? some schools will also ask for the gpa after the first 60 units.

if you're interested in pepperdine you should call their admissions office and ask them specifically. however, i think they will recommend that you retake that course.
