If you're going to consider the WRX, I suggest looking into the Saab 9-2x as well. It's the same car as the WRX, but I personally like how it looks much better, as well as some of the color schemes are beastly on it. However, it's also a rarer car and harder to find. On the bright side, it's a bit cheaper than the WRX since it was branded with Saab.

Good recommendation. Now you've got more options. smile.gif

My friend's for comparison.

It has a few mods, but you get the idea. You're probably gonna do a few things with it after you buy it anyway right? cool.gif

Of course she is. She's gonna get a voltex wide body with some aggressive offsetted rims.

9-2xs, as you'll find out, are pretty rare.

http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/ctd/1384511352.html

I don't know where exactly Fullerton is, but I think it's Socal. And OC isn't THAT far. Mileage is on the high side, and this isn't the WRX model, but this one is the Impreza (non-turbo engine). Still, it has one of the best stock suspensions you'll find (In my opinion) and the car is quite cheap and AWD.

All in all, if you can live with the fact that the mileage is maybe, 40k higher than it should be, then you've got a great "Saabaru" on your hands.

There's no ej205 models around that price? I can never justify paying that much for a non-turbo model.

They're just incredibly hard to find. That's the only one in all of the LA area.

After a quick ebay motors search, you should be able to grab a 2005 9-2x Aero with around average miles (15 x 4 = 60k miles) for about 12-13k. Not a bad deal at all, considering how much a 2005 WRX is.

Also, some may call me blasphemous, but the 9-2x has a better suspension than the WRX. smile.gif

i dont know... debadged trunk, Aftermarket: intercooler, Rims, Boostgauge, Dash, Stereo system (im looking at the wires behind driver seat), and i believe a weighted shift knob. If the driver took care of it, yes. But for the most part this means the car was driven by someone younger, someone who likes to push the car. PROBABLY nothing wrong with it, but its better not to buy modded cars.

Better to find the car stock, (even thought people may have brought it back to stock) Im sure others will agree.

I agree with what Jake said, when a car is modded it's most likely been abused around a bit.

The less modded a car is, the more likely the owner took care of it. Interior mods are the only exception: most people who mod the interior of their car by adding things like rear-view cameras, built-in navs, and such are more likely to take care of their car.

Not really. I knew a guy who had a modded WRX (289whp on a mustang dyno) who converted back his car to stock and sold it. So you can't really say "non modded cars haven't been abused."

I didn't. You can abuse a non-modded, but it's less likely.

But looking at the stereo wire, (since they arent tucked away neatly) i would say its from a younger person, and we know what young drivers like to do while bumping their hiphop songs

IMO, I think its pretty pointless to base whether or not a car is good by checking out to see if it's been modded or not. Honestly, I'd rather buy a car from older people instead of the younger ones.

I know what you mean. Sometimes, young people who do mods may not be a professional, so they might screw up along the way and not say anything about it. I think once a car is modded, it loses its value compared to their base model? True or false?

Mods do in fact make the car lose value. However, there are people who would actually pay more for a modded car.

a modded car has a BETTER chance of being abused. Ofcourse nothing is definite.

also if you buy from a dealer, there is no way of telling. Except maybe accidents or whatnot

Judging from the mods that car have (from what I can see), it doesn't seem significantly modded. Boost gauges are pretty common on a turbo car. So just because they have that doesn't mean it's been abused. Also, the Intercooler isn't necessarily an aftermarket one. It's just an OEM STi one which flows better than the wrx one. Engine bay seems pretty stockish aside from that TMIC and the ballin' ARC pully cover, and the car is still rollin' on a stock exhaust. I'd honestly get it.

The only thing I'd be concern about is the transmission, make sure there are no grinds. Also, see if they can do a compression test for you.

thing is, if it were me, and i was gonna bring my car back or sell it or w.e. The week or two before i trade it in, i will be having a lot of fun with it. And i think you are kinda missing the point, the mods themselves dont mean the car was abused. However they kind of provide us a little bit of insight to who the previous owner was. I dont know too much about subies but cant you take them to a dealership to get an inspection?

also, check the treads for uneven wear
