However since its getting cold now, I barely sweat as much.
Whereas in the summer, I was sweating a tank everywhere.
My question is:
Are they equally as effective in burning fat and calories or is it
more effective in the heat where you lose more?
My friend said its just water weight. not sure.

Fighters also run in the heat to make weight, but, it is all water you are loosing.
Both are equally as good to actually loose fat or stay in shape.

sweating has a lot to do with weight loss!! i mean think about it, if you jog in the heat and sweat more, you weigh less!
....
but that's about it. if you sweat more you need to drink more water to rehydrate and that's it. it's not like you're burning more calories or something for the same amount of work. well i suppose it is harder to breath in the cold, so there's a couple calories there. but all in all, distance and rate is what matters most, the whether is barely a factor

Personally I like running in the heat more, it keep my muscles nice and warm. If you're not careful and just go out in the cold full throttle you are more prone to injuries, so be careful. As for which one is more effective, the way I see it running is running: in the cold your body tries to keep warm; in the heat it tries to keep cool; it all balances out. But if you want to lose water weight, running in cold weather certainly won't do you any good! Just keep in mind you'll drink it back, unless you want to be dehydrated to weigh what, a pound less? Generally weight loss isn't even visible unless it leans towards the double digits because weight fluctuates throughout the day. Personally I think weighing yourself first thing in the morning is best because your stomach is empty. And the less you weigh your self, the more noticeable the results will be when you do.
So depending on your goal, weather may or may not make a difference. If you run a mile in ten minutes after the same warm up routine, I don't see why climate will have any effect on calories burned. But if you're only running for 20 minutes, you won't run as fast in cold weather.
other tips: the body does reach a plateau, so be sure to change your routine every once in a while, and vary your workout to exercise different muscle groups respiratory systems. whole grain carbs an hour before the workout (for fuel), some protein at the latest 15 minutes after (for recovery). I love runnning, so shoot me a pm any time you have any questions. ( =
Good luck!

wen u sweat, thats just the water in your body that u sweat out...so
lets say u sweat a lot and u lose like 2 lbs...drink water, and check again, ur gonna gain that 2 lbs back.
running=calorie burning, and calorie burning doesnt have to do anything with sweating.

If you take that into account, I'd say jogging in the cold would be better but if you mean same running speed/distance I don't know
EDIT: There was this one time I ran when it was really really really cold, like 6 degrees and my lung got the biggest workout so maybe it does something for your lungs.

apparently if you're outside in 50-60 degree weather, then your body will use up the brown fat to turn into heat.
so according to that "research" running in the cold will burn more fat i guess?
