I know this question has been asked about 5437537 million times, but I really wanted to know an accurate answer, and the other threads that posted these questions are, like, 3 years old, lol.
Are circle lenses harmful to your eyes? You see, my birthday's coming up soon (yay), and my eyes aren't really that...big, haha. So I was thinking about going to AR Market to get my circle lenses. I saw a poster that said that the glasses place next to it was selling them. I'm thinking about getting grey or brown. But anyways, I was hearing from my friends that they made their eyesight HORRIBLE. I'm thinking about wearing them occasionally, like...maybe once a month or something. Maybe only like...a couple of hours (4 hours). Just for when I go to school.
I'm actually reconsidering getting them. So yeah, are circle lenses harmful to your eyes? Thanks!

But as long as you don't keep it in there for a month it should be fine.

This is very worrisome...I bought mine not too long ago and I'm already addicted, I can't imagine myself not wearing them. Same thing happened with my falsies lol, but that hasn't given me any side effects.
Hmm maybe I should only wear them a few times a week. I'm the only person in my family who doesn't require glasses, I don't want my eyesight to deteriorate!

(this was said by my provider in korea)
they're only harmful to your eyes when you don't take care of them the right way.
and only if you leave them in over the suggested amount of time (6-8 hrs max)
if u take care of them, clean them, use clean hands before handling them, and don't go over the expiration date, they should be fine.
and NEVER LEAVE THEM IN for more than 8 hours
and carry eyedrops with you to moisten your eyes because they hurtttttt after like 4-5 hours.
so far i've worn them for about 18 monthes and my eyesight is still the same (i have pretty good eyes, its 20/20)
i wore them only like 3-4 times a week tho, and took REALLY good care at handling them.

but i have worn regular contacts for like 2 years
and when i went to my eye doctor to get new ones
they told me my eye sight got even worst
so if regular contacts can make my eye sight worst
i think circle lenses will make them even worst...
and even if you say ur going to wear them sometimes...
no offense i think you will probably get addicted
to how u look in them and wear them a lot like someone
else said above me...
(this was said by my provider in korea)
not to sound mean but if i was selling circle lenses
as my job i would lie to you to make you buy them
cuz i want the money.... so you never really know...

yeah, and my eyes would get really red after I wore them for only four hours.
And I cleaned them really well too.
I just wore them for fun :'(

circle lenses as far as i know, will have a larger diameter than regular contact lenses. which would again, limit the oxygen transfer even more. as for it being thicker, i dont know the material that circle contact lenses are made of - but be assured if you have toric contacts they would indeed be thicker.
so...id say if u want to wear circle contacts...do not wear them for an extended period of time, unless your optometrist says it is okay to do so [note: if they are made of silicon hydrogel....thats ok for a longer period of time. if theyr made of plain hydrogel...NO IT IS NOT]....u can get daily disposable circle lenses now [Acuvue Define]...so those are less harmful cuz u can throw them out at the end fo the day. but prob dont exceed 8-10 hrs max [saying that its dependent on the individual and how tolerant your eyes are].
disclaimer: im a registered optometrist in a couple of months.

So two separate things can happen- even if you clean them very thoroughly there's still the problem of insufficient oxygen reaching your eyes.
The silicone hydrogel contacts are safer, and do deliver more oxygen to your cornea, but I don't think the circle lens are made of silicone hydrogel?
Also, I don't think using eyedrops will do anything to prevent the risk of harm. All they do is hydrate your eyes when they're uncomfortable and dry...

If you want a pair, I would say try to buy the more expensive lenses. Although there's no guarantee that they're made of better material than a cheap pair, it's better to be safe than sorry. The pair I had were 20 bucks so pretty cheap haha
