I have a lot of gay friends so I just thought this guy was being offensive.
----- says:
*What are you doing?
:| rvee says:
*Ummm
*Ventrilo, msn, and facebook
----- says:
*wow you have ventrilo?
*That's pretty gay
:| rvee says:
*Since grade 5
*How is it gay?
*You think everything you don't do is gay
*So talking to my cousins in cali is gay?
*ok cool
*Guess I'm pretty gay then.
----- says:
*pretty lol
*wow...why are you like this now?
:| rvee says:
*Like what?
*lol
*Well I'm just saying, you use "gay" as an insult often so, you must be homophobic.
I know I sounded like a real a-hole but I've been ignoring it for really long, but he just pushed me over the edge for using the word gay so loosely.

and I cringe when I see people type it online, or call someone a "f a g" when they're joking. I don't think it's a thing to be joking with. seriously make me think lower of those who do write it.

i stopped after a cousin of mine (who came out of the closet not too long ago)
told me he didn't like it when ppl use that term that way... so yeah, i stopped...
i mean, it's not like i was trying to be malicious when i used to use it, but yeah, it's pretty ignorant...
it's not hard to use other --more appropriate-- words to describe things.

cut it out of my vocabulary after having a very strict teacher
(would get mad if we said anything the least bit offensive)
recently replaced with 'lame' since sometimes i would have the urge.
btw, ventrilo is sooo not gay lawl.

I'm pretty sure it's fine.
Unless it's like black people saying the n-word.

But a LOT of my friends do and I used to try to stop them from doing so, but I don't want to force my opinions onto others.
And almost none of my gay friends actually mind because it's become so common (sad, I know) so yeah..

I think people are overly sensitive.
Naw, they're just pissed off. If I came to your house every Tuesday and punched you in the face while yelling "YOU'RE SO GAY, GAYBO! WITH YOUR GAY HOUSE AND YOUR GAY CAT AND LOOK YOU GO T YOUR GAY BLOOD ALL OVER MY KNUCKLES!"
Then you'd eventual be pretty pissed off with people calling things gay (as a substitute for stupid) and also Tuesdays. But that'd be a bonus

I agree with you. My best friend is gay & he and several other homosexual people I know say it WAYYYY more than I do. I really don't think most people or gay people in general care really.

I think people are overly sensitive.
Same. Me and my friends use it all the time. It's just another slang word for 'stupid/lame/etc'.

I think i'd be more annoyed about you coming to my house and punching me in the face..

The weird thing is, when I was in my dorm, my roommate, who isn't gay, got a bit irritated when I used the word. He told me he has a few gay friends and that it kinda bothers him when I use it because it seems offensive to them. I still use it though lol

I don't think he missed the point, I think he's saying that your point is stupid.

And how is that? Gay people and people who are offended by the use of the term gay as a substitute for stupid aren't sensitive. They are mad because of all these negative confrontations associated with it during everyday speech.
Much like if I punched you in the face and called you gay every tuesday. Your brain would connect the word "gay" with being punched in the face on tuesdays. It's called negative reinforcement.
Much like people who are offended by the word's brain connects it with negative undesirable and stupid behaviour. Thus causing the original insult in the first place.
The theory that they are sensitive is wrong, they are just angry. So I doubt that he meant my point was stupid, if he'd got it.

when you use the term "that's so gay" you're using someone's identity as an insult.
And don't give me that "omg, people are so sensitive" bull.
How would you like it if the majority of people started using a part of your identity as an adjective to describe something repulsive? Exactly.
