so today i was setting cruise control on my car and then had to sudden brake due to round about at about 60kms. and it was a sudden braking so the car/ brake started to make a noise that sounds something like scrapping the bottom of your car onto the side curb but didnt. so yea any ideas why? the cars new. its only gone about 400kms and is about 2 weeks old.

so today i realized some thing else thats wrong with the car, and its never happened before, but when i got from D to R on an auto transmission it makes a noise, cant describe the noise but its kinda like something screeching its really soft tho. it doesnt happen from R to D, jus D to R. any ideas?

Bad brake pads? Good brake pads so good that it's still breaking in?

Might be the ABS from the hard braking. Learned about hard braking under ABS in driving school, made the same noise braking in a straight line.

If its the ABS, I got a Honda CR-V that makes like ticking noises, its the abs going on.

But if it was horrible metal scraping sound... thats bad, hopefully the brake pad gripping the rotor.

You can test if its the ABS. Go straight reallllllllly fast in a straight line (in a safe area) and brake REALLLLLLY hard.
Ticking noise or pulsations on brake pedal = ABS kicking in.

I'd say ABS is kicking in. In some cars its louder and more noticible than others. The ABS reacts very quickly and the pulsations can often be felt through the pedal. The sound can vary, but its does sound like what you are describing.

I remember driving a Prius and having to panic brake once. It was the most awful feeling in the world. The ABS and stability control kicked in suddenly, all the warning lights were flashing at me (indicating that the ABS and traction/stability controls are kicking in) and the non-progressive braking wasn't a good feeling either. The flashing lights and the sounds its was making was enough to almost make me panic myself!

Cruise control has nothing to do with it. Its definently the ABS kicking in. My civic does that too during hard braking

I doubt its the abs kicking in if it sounds like metal scraping. You should see if your brakes are low. It sounds like it might be the low pad indicator

Car is new and only has 400KM put on it. Brakes shouldn't be worn unless the dealership had some joyrides, or if the OP does more spirited driving than we know about.

My vote is on ABS. It sounds nasty and like how you described. But if not, I'd agree with Mr. Chan on brake pads; especially if the car is new.
