Pros: -Plentiful years serving so experience is gained on the bench.
-Since each judge has been appointed by a president and approved by senate of certain leaning/majority then you can slightly predict the rulings of a judge : activist or restaintist. But remember since they're lifetime, they can make their own decisions and not subject to public opinions.
Cons: -Same for Congress, not many change of position so it limits the flow of ideas and essentially "whats going on today"
-They decide constitutionality of the law, though depending on the judge him/herself, he or she can shape the laws which isn't meant for the courts. They're given more discretion, such as to create a precedent(which can consider a law) and can/should(in my opinion) defer legislation/law creation to the legislative branch.

This is just the top of my head, sorry can't provide the AP gov't facts since its been a while/don't have my notebook. Good luck and just think of possible reasons, they're all good =P
