I am deciding to go to this community school. Anyone has thoughts about this school? Are there lot of freshman (18 years old) who is seeking associate degrees and transfer to private schools? I am really curious....and are they active in clubs and all this organizations? I might apply here...since it is close to my state...maryland...and needs to go out of states...for personal reasons...:]

hey,

i'm assuming that you're talking about the one in bergen county, new jersey. i've heard that it's one of the most renowned community colleges in the area. i took classes at bcc for a year, and i really enjoyed my time there before i transferred to the university of maryland in college park.

i can't tell you much more about this place except that it's easy to get straight A's, and the teachers are incredibly nice. the campus and buildings are decent. i haven't been involved in any clubs, but i'm sure that there are all kinds of clubs that you can join. basically, my philosophy was to "get in and get out" of bcc in the shortest time possible, and to not get too comfortable in this place. like you, i wanted to move on to bigger and better things.

i felt like most people there had the same "tunnel-vision" mentality that i had. there were people of all ages and backgrounds who attended bcc, and they all seemed to live in their own worlds, especially the older students. by this, i mean that they didn't really get absorbed in socializing with other people. there were a lot of people who ate alone in the cafetaria. also, given that it is a community college with no dorms, no one hanged out after class. they all drove straight home to their families or work, like me.
however, i'm not suggesting that the students are unfriendly in any way. some are just busy people who don't have time to make friends and hang out.

also, there is a healthy amount of asians who go there, although i feel like half of them are fobs. i didn't pay attention to them (because i find it hard to relate with fobs), so i can't give you the inside scoop on how they are. but generally, everyone gets along.

among the people that i have interacted with, most transfer to rutgers or montclair, both of which are in new jersey. for more info, you should consult the guidance counselor.

this is all that i have to say about bergen community college.
i wish you the best of luck!

I am currently a student at BCC (3rd semester this upcoming Fall) and I love it! I know that many people just come to take classes and leave, but it makes a world of difference if you join clubs and become an active part of the student community. If anyone has questions, please feel free to PM me. I am studying Liberal Arts(Econ option) btw.
