Growth spurts and weight gain Did you gain a lot of weight when you grew?

When I was around 11 years old, I was a few inches below 5 feet. At a certain point I shot up 0.5-1 inch every month. ohmy.gif I didn't have a problem with that, but I had issues with growing pains and the weight gain it brought. My weight increased proportionally to my height. I gained 5-10 pounds every year that I grew. I never lost weight (3 pounds through vigorous exercise does not count mad.gif). So now I'm just like me 5 years ago, but blown up in size proportionally (think of increasing picture size in a document). I'm so disappointed that I didn't just simply shoot up. 50 pounds for 10 inches? I'd rather go for something else. I'm kind of jealous of people whose weights are stable as they grow. sad.gif

What about you? Did you gain a lot of weight as you grew, or barely any? Please define "a lot," because that seems to be really different across the board.
Oh, and if you didn't have any significant growth during early/mid teens, did your weight stay the same?

What an absurd expectation.

Of course you're suppose to grow in weight when you grow in height. Where exactly do you think the extra bone, muscle, and other material goes to. A little fluffy cloud of non-gravity?

As long as you're a normal weight, stop complaining. Health is wasted on the healthy.

Gosh, I didn't expect such a harsh reply.

I know plenty of girls who grow a lot (in height) but seem slimmer because their weight remains relatively stable. And I'm sorry if my message wasn't clear: I didn't expect to not gain any weight when I grew.

Oh well basically I gained until I kinda reached 100 lbs and then I shot up. Well, not really "shot up" because I didn't actually grow that much... four inches. eh. I gained weight first and then grew as I maintained that weight.

Gaining weight during your growth is a normal thing (though it frankly depends on the person, just because some tend to remain their weight even in their growth, doesn't mean you'll have to be the same). Adults always say "Everything that goes in your mouth, comes out in your height" but you know, that's not entirely true. Eating lots can apply to almost anywhere, even weight. But I'm not saying you should cutt off your appetite, you can always lose weight but growing is just a phase. Don't sweat it. =)

I wonder if others gained weight as they grew or, like you, gained weight before growing.

Thank you. I'll try to keep reminding myself that it's just a phase: sometimes I get so worked up about my weight that I feel like giving up. Thanks for your support. smile.gif

Many members of my family gained a bit of excessive during their growth and then kind of lost the extra weight after they stopped growing around their early twenties. This didn't happen with all of them, so I'm hoping I'll be one of the luckier ones.

Thanks for the friendly reply, guys. For a while there I thought everyone was going to bash me.

In my opinion, when your starting to grow you already prone to more weight gaining factors in life. That's why they are more conscious about your weight because of peer pressure.
