I just got a HTC Hero yesterday -- made the switch from iPhone 3GS. Well, it's more like an addition rather than a switch, since I plan to switch between the two as I wish. Anyway, it took me a good day to figure everything out and get everything set up (i.e. configuring mobile network, downloading Korean keyboard and other apps, etc) but I like it much better than the iPhone. It's like an iPhone, but prettier +_+ Plus it's not common since it's not available in the U.S., while everyone and their grandma has an iPhone.

Anyway, I was hoping to discuss with other Hero users (or HTC users, or Android users). Recommend apps and whatnot I don't know smile.gif

So I'm using the HTC Hero on AT&T in the States. 3G isn't available, but it's not totally unbearable -- I couldn't really feel a difference between the iPhone's speed and the Hero's speed but maybe I'm insensitive to that sort of thing o_o

I was looking on getting that phone too. Can I asked where you got it from? And how do you configure the mobile network?

I Love Soshi, especially Jessica

I got it from mobile city but the white one's backordered there right now. I don't remember exactly how I configured the network (it was a while ago sorry T^T) but I got help from android forums on-line (and no I don't remember which forum -- google is your friend ^^;; )

I got it when it first came out for Telus, and so far i am amazed with this phone. It's great, fun apps, and a great style. I'd honestly say its on-par with the iphone, but thats just my opinion. I suggest you try the barcode reader app, its really cool haha. At first its kinda confusing to use but you'll get it within 2 hours of playing around with it. ive had it for about
2 weeeks with no protection and havent gotten a scratch on it yet which im really impressed with.

To the extent of my knowledge, the HTC Hero (the one we're talking about is the GSM version, not the Sprint version) only runs on HSDPA frequencies of 900 and 2100, not 850 and 1900 for U.S. And if you are talking about the Sprint version, yes it does have 3G but it's on Sprint and it's much uglier imo.

based on what you said your phone wouldnt work in the u.s. its a quad band phone meaning it works on 850,900,1800,and 1900. 2100 is a cdma band. the only problem with att's 3g HSDPA is that its on 850 and 1900 so your getting shotty speeds cuz you got it from europe. which i guess is fine if your not using the internet alot on it

That's basically what I've been saying the entire time sleep.gif It works fine for calling and whatnot but the internet isn't 3G. It's quadband but its HSDPA frequencies are 900 and 2100; if they were 850 and 1900, 3G would work here in the U.S. There is no 'European version' of the HTC Hero, there's only one version, unless you're trying to differentiate between the HTC Hero GSM version and the Sprint HTC Hero (which I've made the difference clear the whole time -- look at the topic title). And lastly, the phone isn't from Europe fyi smile.gif

okay. i was wondering on the phone since it is unlocked, does it lag at all?
i was reading some reviews and some people were saying that it lags, but others were saying that now it doesn't because HTC updated the software.
and you can put a SIM card in there, right?

It didn't lag for me from the beginning; I think I got the Hero with the update in it already. And yes of course you can put a SIM card in it.

GSM>Sprint

I want to get the international one cause the Sprint one is ugly, but I may just get the Sprint one since I have their service (got the HTC DiAMOND)...I want to upgrade but I don't want to have an Android phone. Decisions, decisions...

you can find me sleeping next to the stack of unfinished songs and fanfics

Yeah I thought the Sprint Hero was butt ugly, even though it's the same phone inside. Plus I haven't ever heard good things about Sprint o_o Android phones are cool! I don't like Windows mobile -.-a
