Has anyone read anything of Rick Riordan? There's this children's series that he wrote, called Percy Jackson but it's written well with the main character given wit and spunk that's just very likable. He has a away of making people's flaws hilarious.

Does anyone else have any books to recommend that, not entirely is purely comedy, but is well written and the main character just has that kid of wit and spice that is so entertaining and humourous to read?

Recommendations would be great smile.gif

Or your favourite novel that made you laugh.

I tend to read fantasy books.

The one that made me laugh out loud was Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys. It's a bit strange at times, but it's also quite touching.

I also love Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind (another fantasy novel)- the main character is quite witty (as a student, he got under his instructors' nerves) , but I didn't laugh out loud while reading it.

Does anyone happen to read ebooks? (on portable devices, not on the comp)

I want to read more, but I don't really want to carry a book on me, and a lot of the books on the what book are you currently reading thread are mostly the paper books.

OP, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is one of my favorite book series! Definitely the one that made me laugh the most.

I think one book that made me laugh a lot is "Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging" by Louise Rennison, and the Georgia Nicholson series was fun to read for awhile, but it got kind of tiresome to read. I think after the seventh book I stopped reading this series. It felt like the plot wasn't really going anywhere and all Georgia ever did was make out with a couple guys and finding herself wondering which guy to date.

There's also the Lemony Snicket's works. There's a bit of quirky humor in his works.

I just finished The Lightning Thief, and I have to agree with you, it is witty and funny. Try reading David Sedaris's books. They're semi-autobiographical, I think.

I recently was exposed to David Sedaris, and I really cannot wait to get my hands on some of his books. I was laughing so hard when I heard a couple of his essays on the "This American Life" podcasts. XD

Fell in love with the characters; they're interesting once you get to know them haha.
Especially Rebecca Bloomwood =)

^ Is it better than the movie? (Which is a stupid question, because books are always better than their movie counterpart, but does it have a different tone?)

Oh my goshness, the whole series is LOVE, really. I bought the whole series, haha and the plot is just brilliant and everything ties in really well, Percy has some spunk.

... I'm definitely going to find that book by Hugh Laurie, he's my second favourite actor apart from johnny depp and he's hilarious.

I got tired of Angus, Thongs and Full-frontal snogging after a few chapters. It just seemed apparent to me her life involved Jas too much and started to creep me out... lol, also because i liked the movie better.

Thank you for everyone's suggestions!

Any other books part of a series to recommend with this topic?

I AM AMERICA AND SO CAN YOU

If you're a fan of Stephen Colbert & the Colbert Report you will get a kick out of this book..it's not a novel that you can read in one sitting (it can be a bit much) but it's definitely good to pick up when your sitting on the couch and want a good chuckle..plus it's packed with illustrations and stickers lol..gotta love that. It's a bit repetitive since a lot of the stuff in the book is really based on the Colbert Report but you won't be disappointed if you really get Colbert's alter ego persona.

Kurt Vonnegut books are humorous and satirical. And it's easy to read!

i absolutely LOOOVE the Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty! <3 i've read and own all the books of the series, except for "Perfect Fifths", which is the last. a little bit about the story, the main character, Jessica Darling, is an 18-year old virgin and her bestfriend, Hope, had moved away because her brother had died of a drug overdose. when she meets this charismatic former-drug addict, she can't help but hate and love him at the same time. in one of the books (i can't say which! haha), Hope and mister former-drug addict reveals something that makes Jessica lose faith in everyone she trusts.

the author did a really good job at making it seem relate-able to teens. i recommended these books to one of my girl friends and one of my guy friends then let them borrow my books and when they were finished reading them, they said it was very humorous. 8D
