If any of you guys visit technology blogs, a lot of posts report about new models of e-book readers almost every week. So yeah, it's very tempting. T-T Cause I'm such a book geek... lol I'm thinking of getting an e-book reader...

I was originally just choosing between the Amazon Kindle and the Sony Reader Touch, but with the newly released (and might I add, sexy looking) Nook from Barnes and Noble, I'm leaning more unto the Nook.

Actually, the Kindle is at the bottom of my list cause it looks dull and I heard Amazon can delete your books. So yeah, sucks. And my only problem with the Sony Reader Touch is that Sony doesn't ship it internationally. So it's hard to get one. Unlike B&N which ships internationally, hence I can easily get my hands on the smexy Nook.

The thing with Nook is that it's just new and it's still in pre-order status, so at the moment I can't really read detailed reviews about it.

Does anyone here own any of these? Or any e-book reader at all? Come tell me your opinions about it. Also if it's worth buying an e-book reader! I know classic paperback is still the best option, but I'm really the type who reads a lot and switches back and forth 3 (or more) books at once... so I'm guessing having an e-reader will make it easier for me. biggrin.gif

I have a Kindle DX and I love it. It definitely helped me read more, since it's easy to get new books (as long as you have the funds to supply for them x_x). As for Amazon deleting your books, that happened once because of issues with the publisher and it's not like they'll just delete your book and not give you a refund (they gave refunds to everyone and I think gave people more money afterwards). Anyway, that's definitely not something normal and I think other e-books would have done the same in that situation. I guess if I had just the Kindle and not Kindle DX, I'd have more options now (Sony reader, Nook, iriver, etc) but Kindle DX is the only one with that big a screen right now I think.

Oh and it sucks butt when you want to read something and it's not available yet on Kindle sad.gif

Anyone else use an E-reader? Any comments on them? Pros and cons? I've been thinking about getting one. It is getting so popular now and I see quite a lot of people using them. Like the OP, I've been thinking about getting one of the more popular ones; the kindle, sony reader and the nook. I want to re-read the whole Harry Potter series and figured it would be a lot easier to get a e-reader and carry all of the books onto one system.

The Kindle DX looks very nice, but the price is too much for me now. I'm looking to spend $300 or less. (Would like to save the extra money and get books instead)

I use my itouch with the Stanza app to read ebooks. I love it because I can do other things than just read ebooks with it.

I was using the Stanza app on the iTouch to read too until it started to drain my battery fast and I was liking the whole idea of e-book and e-readers.

Some BN stores have models of the Nook and orders ship Jan 4th ( I believe ). I work at BN btw tongue.gif and no I'm not promoting it because I work there.

I like the Nook because of the cool color touch screen thing on the bottom, and because others who have the nook can burrow books from each other.

although I think Amazon's been promoting the Kindle a lot recently (see their commercial on the tv like every other break).

but they're like the same price. so I'd get the nook because of the new features and stuff.

edit: FYL BN membership discounts don't apply to e-books yet sad.gif

I'm considering getting the Sony one but this Nook sounds even better <3
I just haven't read enough reviews on any of it & I'm worried that's I'll get one and all my fav books aren't ..e-ified? xD
Like Harry Potter since JK Rowlings was against it...unless that changed..which I doubt

Eh, I want one though.

My mom got me a Sony e-reader a Christmas or so ago. Its the PRS-505 model and I love it. It makes reading so much faster, accessible, and cheaper. The e-reader library has tons of books to choose from and they download super fast.

My only complaint is that I charge mine via the USB cable to my computer and it takes days for it to charge from dead to full battery. Also, if I don't use it for an extended amount of time it seems like the battery depletes while it's idle which is ridiculous to me.

However, I think it is worth it. Everyone @ my school always asks me about it and I love fooling my teachers when they tell me to put it away cause they think its an mp3 or something haha:)

@ JaeJoong_93

How is the Sony reader when it comes to PDF files? It would be really handy if I can put in PDF files in there and read on the go without printing and carrying with me tons of pages. Do you read your school books on the reader too?

The Nook seems really hot, but like yoko102308 said, there isn't enough user reviews out there about it yet. (It does look really really good though.)

@ rainiee.dayy
This might help clear up the confusion about sending to US and downloading books onto the Nook.

i just got my nook, it's great but i don't have prior experience with ebook readers so i can't really give a fair opinion. i can see how some people complain about a "lag" with nook when flipping pages but it's not really serious, it's just a second. i'm sure it'll get better with more firmware updates. the nook itself is gorgeous. haven't really done anything else with it yet though, post more later i guess

So I was thinking about investing in an e-book reader. But I don't know what types would be suitable for my needs or the price range. Does anybody have one?

I was thinking about using it to reads whilst I commute to places and the thought of not wasting paper is good enough for me.

Also a question, can these E-books read Jpegs? I usually download magazines online to read them
and most of them are Jpeg files from websites that contain scanlations.

smile.gif Help would be greatly appreciated.

Ebook Reviews

You might want to read this^^ if you haven't already

I've used my friends Kindle for like 10 mins, and I thought that was pretty good. I would buy it if it weren't so expensive =[

does anybody know which ebook readers will let you upload your own pdfs in it? because I am aware that some dont allow you to simply upload pdfs onto it for free.

Kindle DX lets you upload PDFs onto it for free but only if you're using USB. If you want to upload it wirelessly, there's a small fee.

After looking at a youtube ad on Onyx, I'm wondering... are all E-readers screens greyscale? or can they view colour as well?
