By dorm, I'm assuming you mean communal style? Well, as far as I know, communal style allows you to meet people easier, but the rooms are typically a lot smaller, and bathrooms are usually shared by the entire floor. Apartment style is less crowded, but more expensive, and less social. The bathrooms are generally shared between 2-3 people.

I say do communal freshman year and apartment after that.

I know some people who did apartment style and they ended up hating their colleges since they didn't make a lot of friends. My college makes it a requirement to stay in a dorm until you have __ credits.

do traditional style 1st year and then in second year when you move out you're going to have to live off campus anyways.
My LIFE would SUCK without you

i would highly recommend doing dorming and then apartment style after. dorming allows you to meet so many people and the experience is so unique.
