So, a friend and I are planning to either enroll in the Summer Intensive Studies in New York for Parsons, or SFAI's summer pre-college program. If I were to go to Parsons, I'd take Drawing and Design, and if I were to go to SFAI, I'd take Intuition and Expression: Line and Life Drawing.

I've made a list of pros and cons for each of the schools;

PARSONS
+ PROS
- New York City (Someplace I've never been to, and would love to go.)
- Well known school
- Nice dorms
- Four weeks

- CONS
- Tuition (~$4000)
- Can only take one course

SAN FRANCISCO
+ PROS
- Tuition (Only about $2000 or $3000, depending on how many courses I take.)
- Can take up to two courses

- CONS
- Already been to San Francisco; Want to go someplace new
- 5 weeks; maybe a little too long

Has anyone attended either of these programs? If you have, did you like it?
not one expression on that face, would ever give her game away

Ive never been to either of them BUT I just wanted to say, go to Parsons. Parsons has a name to the school -- its really famous for art. Location is important. People think differently of studying art in NYC vs. studying art in San Francisco. The tuition is different because its NYC, everything is more expensive here.

I would go to Parsons. phew.gif Yeah, it's a high cost, but the experience you'd have in New York City, and at Parsons, is invaluble.

I don't know, I'd go to San Fransisco. I mean, the classes are cheaper, plus you get an extra week. You can take extra courses too! Plus, I hear Parsons's reputation isn't as high as it was before, or so my art teacher says. I don't think the name of the school is that big of a deal, considering the money you save.

Thats cause you live in NY.. you're supposed to make a decision if you were her, not if you were yourself (which you are)

I took a course at parson's this past summer. It was a two week class but it was pretty good. there isn't much to do around the actual school, but since it is manhattan everything is within good distance. manhattan also has great art museums... visiting them would be a good learning experience you won't get in sf.

its only for a summer program so I would go to the SFAI program unless you want to go to parsons for college then that should be your option.

you know what..i say go for the SFAI..because you are not gonna get a degree or what not there so it doesnt matter how famous the school is..you are just learning skills there..

from what i know..parsons isnt that much better than alot of the fashion/art schools out there..but you are paying more for their name, location and connection..which are important if you want to climb high and that's why i want to go there

and life drawing is very important..and parsons takes life drawing pretty seiously..=T so if u want to build a good portfolio..definetly get some life drawings in there...and it's fun XD

but i agree with Yukiki on the art museums part..i think you should just go backpacking to new york for a week..just for fun and touring..get to know the city better if you are planning on applying to parsons

parsons dorms suck! big time.

if you actually plan on going to parsons for college you should consider summer studies there to see if you like it....
alot of ppl -from my experience- came their freshman year to parsons and hated it... just depends on the person...
