Old School Metal? metal/rock music from the 70s-90s?

Lately, rock and metal these days is really bad so I just wanted to know....are there any people out there who are suffering like me from the lack of good metal music?
Especially the type of metal that used to be popular around the 70s, 80s and 90s. (some underground music is nice, but honestly...you can't compare)
It's just really annoying that when I turn on music channels, all the songs played in rock playlists are just pop songs by artists such as The JoBros, Demi Levato, even Jordin Sparks!
What has this world come to? T___T
And don't forget to mention your favorite rock and metal bands (from those times) so that I have something good (and new in a way) to listen to! XD

I have a few modern bands you should seriously look into, though. Check out La Dispute, Between the Buried and Me (amazing band. they have both br00talnezz & beautiful melody), Alexisonfire, and dream theater.

If you look hard enough you find some excellent new bands that represent all the various Metal genres, as well as some more recent creations. I'm not talking about all this "Metalcore/Deathcore" BS either. I'm talking straight up METAL. \m/ >o< \m/
Check out some of these newer (-ish) tbands:
The Sword - Traditional Heavy Metal/Doom Metal. Very old-school sound to them, will remind you a lot of early Black Sabbath stuff, only heavier. One of my favorite new bands.
The Sword - How Heavy This Axe
The Sword - Winter's Wolves
The Sword - Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians
The Sword - Maiden, Mother & Crone
High On Fire - Stoner/Sludge Metal. Also got a great old-school sound to them, think traditional Heavy Metal but faster, more aggressive, and with Lemmy Kilmeister-style vocals.
High On Fire - Rumors of War
High On Fire - Frost Hammer
High On Fire - Hung, Drawn, and Quartered
Mastodon - Progressive Sludge Metal. One of the leaders of America's "New Wave of American Heavy Metal," they've just got a great sound.
Mastodon - Oblivion
Mastodon - Sleeping Giant
Mastodon - Iron Tusk
Baroness - Progressive Sludge Metal. Somewhat similar to Mastodon.
Baroness - A Horse Called Golgotha
Kylesa - Progressive Sludge Metal. Also somewhat similar to Mastodon.
Kylesa - Hollow Serverer
Kylesa - Where the Horizon Unfolds
Lazarus A.D. - Thrash Metal. These guys are part of a whole new Thrash revival that started sometime during the mid 2000s, and so far these guys are my favorite. Nothing but, fast, aggressive, energetic Thrash Metal that pays homage to bands like Slayer and Metallica, whilst still keeping it fresh and modern-sounding....God these guys are so awesome. \m/ >o< \m/
Lazarus A.D. - Revolution
Lazarus A.D. - Thou Shall Not Fear
Warbringer - Thrash Metal. Another new band from the Thrash revival, these guys definitely have a sound geared more towards Slayer and German Thrash Metal legends like Kreator, Sodom and Destruction. Great band.
Warbringer - Severed Reality
Warbringer - Total War
Let me know what type of Metal you're into, and I can recommend a few more bands according to your likes and dislikes. Cheers!

The old:
Black Sabbath - Die Young I miss Dio. R.I.P. ! \m/ ;_; \m/
Rainbow - Kill the King
Deep Purple - Burn (Live at California Jam 1974) Love those high notes Glenn Hughes hits at 3:28 and 5:16
UFO - Rock Bottom
Riot - Road Racin'
Motorhead - Marching Off to War
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name Up the Irons \m/
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Mercyful Fate - Doomed by the Living Dead
The New:
Absolutely loving Enslaved's new album "Axioma Ethica Odini." It does for Black Metal what Opeth does for Death Metal. <3 This album along with Nachtmystium's "Addicts: Black Meddle pt. 2" are my favorite Black Metal albums of the year so far.
Enslaved - Giants
And while we're on the subject of Nachtmystium's new album:
Nachtmystium - High on Hate
Just love their brand of Progressive/Psychedelic Rock-influenced Black Metal. Check out "Instinct: Decay", "Assasins: Black Meddle pt 1", and the "Worldfall" EP as well.
The Absence just put out their latest album, "Enemy Unbound," and I have to say it's damn good Melodic Death Metal. . They've always had a more Thrashy, At The Gates feel to them as opposed to something like In Flames or Dark Tranquility. In a market that's filled with Metalcore and Deathcore bands, it's always awesome to see some good Melodeath come from the U.S.
The Absence - Enemy Unbound
I think out of the all the songs on Adult Swim's "Metal Swim" compilation album, I fell in love with this song the most:
Witch Mountain - Veil of the Forgotten
Great Doom Metal sound, but what really caught my attention was the vocalist - She has an amazing voice; it just fits so well with the music. Other gems from the compilation album:
Ludicra - Path of Ash Crust punk - influenced Black Metal
Saviours - Dixie Dieway Stoner Metal
Skeletonwitch - Bringers of Death Blackened Thrash Metal with some NWOBHM influences. Adult Swim commissioned this awesome music video themselves, lol. If you want to see fluffy animal mascots get torn into shredded cotton by zombies, watch this. =D
Death Angel - Truce Filipino-American Thrash Metal band that have been around since the 80s. They just released a new album, which this song came off of.
Speaking of Thrash Metal, I love how two of the oldest acts from the 80s - Exodus and Overkill - released the two best Thrash Metal albums of the year: Exhibit B: The Human Condition and Ironbound:
Exodus - Downfall awesome song, and awesome little animated scene in the middle, but warning - it may cause seizures, lol
Overkill - Bring Me the Night
I haven't listened to all of the new Blind Guardian album yet, but I love this song they made a video for:
Blind Guardian - A Voice in the Dark
Now that's Power Metal done right. =D
Finally, what does everyone think about the new Dimmu Borgir album? I'll admit, the song they chose to turn into a music video was...different, even for them, but I thought the rest of the album was pretty solid, actually. It harkens back to their Death Cult Armageddon album, kind of.
Dimmu Borgir - Gateways
People complained about the vocals from the chick from Animal Alpha and Dverj, but I thought it suited the song rather nicely. Plus she totally rocked when she was in Animal Alpha, but I haven't heard anything from Dverj yet.

lol, I just found out recently that the opening guitar riff in Scum sounds an awful lot like the one in Pentagram's song All Your Sins:
Pentagram - All Your Sins
While we're on Napalm Death:
Napalm Death - You Suffer
The track is precisely 1.316 seconds long. It's listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the shortest song ever recorded, lol.

Sweet list, dude.
Stratovarius - Eagleheart
"Heart of an eagle, he flies through the rainbow
Into a new world and finds the sun
Spreading his wings above all the sorrows
The glory of Eagleheart!"
\m/ >o< \m/
A shame their drummer was diagnosed with cancer though. Hope he recovers soon. Lord knows we've lost enough Metal legends last year....
Dio - Rainbow in the Dark
R.I.P., you Neon Knight, you. Ride them Silver Mountains. \m/ ;_; \m/

F**K YES. And thank God I live in California, lol. I wonder why only one show though....at least, so far. You would think the 4 biggest Metal acts from the U.S. would be playing all over the countryside (why they went to Europe to play last year instead of doing it on their home turf is beyond me). Maybe we'll see more dates along the line.
And for the sake of posting some awesome music:
Sleep - Dragonaut
The bass in this is ridiculously awesome. \m/

METALLICA's LARS ULRICH Doesn't Rule Out Additional 'Big Four' U.S. Dates
However it seems like it won't be within the year.
Anyways, more music!:
Motörhead - Motorhead
I wanna see Lemmy's documentary movie. I think it's out in selected theaters in the states, and it's coming out on dvd/blu-ray on Feb. 15th. =D
