Does anyone know of either a flip or slider phone that i can get unlocked to use with AT&T? I know the ice cream is out but the reviews are so mixed that i am a bit scared to get it cos i dont want it to die on me. =( is there anything else out?
I just prefer unlocked phones from Asia because they are so much cuter. I find American phones to be kind of dull =.=''
Thanks in advance! =)

are you going to do the unlocking on your own? because there are sooo many unlocked phones from Asia & Europe that are sold at unlocked cellphone stores. theres just too many to list. these are called GSM phones. these websites are very good for looking for phones to get. www.gsmarena.com and www.phonearena.com

Most of them do to my knowledge. Depends on the HyperSIM you get, assuming you get a Docomo.
To my knowledge, only the newer Docomo models (as in past couple of years) can be unlocked, and unlocked with a HyperSIM, not software. My ohone is an oldish Softback, and I bought it software unlocked. Just shop around and don't be afraid to ask the seller questions.

Thanks! ^-^
You'll have to buy it from Japan, already factory unlocked if you don't want to use a HyperSIM, and buying them factory unlocked is way more expensive that getting a HyperSIM (hence why everyone used them)
The HyperSIM basically just tricks your phone into thinking that your SIM card is Japanese.

I got my phone used minimally on eBay for about... $275 I think? My boyfriend got it for me as a present. The initial hyperSIM it came with was broken, and the girl ran out of extras so she gave us about $20 refund. Not bad at all!
I also have a Mitsuwa nearby, and there's a tiny T-Mobile shop inside. They also sell Softbank and DoCoMo phones, but most of them are locked. They're also very expensive! They had the SH707 phones, but I think they went for about... $300? They also had one similar to this (I'm sorry, I don't remember which one it is!) but in hot pink:

I think that one was like, $600 LOCKED!
There's also a Japanese gadget store that cells Softbank phones ranging from $300-$500, but those are unlocked. The only downside, is you are pretty limited with what you can do with these phones. If you want to use internet and email, etc. then you should get an American phone. Otherwise, if you're content with just texting and talking, it's up to you.

Oookay, thanks ^-^
Do you have to keep the HyperSIM in the phone after?
And can you use it with any carrier (ex. Rogers, AT&T, Fido, etc.)?

You keep the HyperSIM in your phone forever. . .as long as you're using the phone. Sometimes they require "CPR" (which you should look up everything regarding the phone you want and HyperSIM's before purchasing, as some can be a lot of work).
As for carrier, different HyperSIM's have a higher chance of working better with different carriers/phones. You'll just have to do research on your own and try it out. Sometimes people end up buying a HyperSIM that should work with their phone, and it doesn't, they just have to buy another one. It's all trial and error. Maybe you'll get lucky though.

There are plenty of other people on Soompi using keitais with AT&T though.

Really? I haven't seen anyone on soompi who uses keitai with AT&T -- they always use it with T-Mobile because T-Mobile is triband.

lolwut. thisismyv just a couple posts up talks about her DoCoMo on AT&T.
Also about Korean phones used over here, I don't know about all of them, but I had a bad experience with the Anycall W2700. I bought it and tried to use it; the seller said it worked fine on AT&T and should work fine on T-Mobile, but he was either lying, or the phone just really doesn't work with T-Mobile at all. I couldn't send text messages at all, and the names of people in my phone book wouldn't show up with the numbers when I got calls/texts.
Maybe just a bad experience, but it's scared me away from Korean phones for good.

lol you're right! But it's sort of different between NorCal and SoCal, because T-Mobile works well in NorCal and it sucks here in San Diego. I think AT&T shares towers with T-Mobile or something for triband phones so it would work better in NorCal than SoCal... o_o

Wow, that's really strange and really confusing. Makes me glad I'm with T-Mobile, then. I have yet to try a keitai with HyperSIM though, so who knows :|

i think its because the Anycall phone was directly from Korea, since Anycall is one of their networks. but if you get a Korean brand phone like LG or Samsung unlocked then it should work fine because I've had those phones and I use tmobile. I think though, in Korea Anycall is the same as Samsung. Anycall is like a subcompany of Samsung and SKY is a subcompany of LG or something.
