Hey everybody, I would appreciate the help if people could answer this.
I am currently doing research about the early days of Hallyu, but I can't seem to find any information about how JYP started off his career. This is for an Asian pop culture class.
I know he graduated from Yonsei with a Geology degree, got 50,000US$ from parents and friends to start his own company (now known as JYP Ent). However, that's about all the information I have. There's a lot of info about later on when he formed G.O.D, helped Noel become popular, and eventually gave Rain the big break, and obviously his later acts like WG, 2AM/2PM etc. But not much about HIMSELF in early days.
How did he become so successful? Does this mean he started off as an Indie singer-producer or did he used to be under another entertainment company? If he started off Indie, why hasn't anybody replicated his success by starting off from scratch and transforming themselves into the next SM, YG or JYP Entertainment comp apart from marketing reasons?
Please help me answer these questions I'll appreciate it SOOOOOOO much. Been so frustrated looking for these answers.
EDIT: Oh, I also heard he had many anti-fans during his early days because of his controversial fashion and gestures (crotch-holding etc) and Korea back then was far more conservative compared to now... can anyone shed more light on that?

Hey guys,
thanks a lot for pointing out interviews with JYP to me in your PMs. i really appreciate it. he does mention working for a company before 1997 and failing all his auditions.
i just wished someone that can read korean fluently (unlike me, i jus started learning) could help me translate more interviews about his past or more in-depth bio on Naver and daum. It'd be ridiculously thankful for it.
Sorry for asking so much cause it's bizarre there's so little written about JYP's early days, considering if you look at major producers, there's always more info than you really need.
