So, I was watching Drop Dead Diva and I noticed that the main lawyer character, Jane, tends to have juries for her lawsuits. I know it's just a tv show, but I figure it must have some basis in fact, so could someone please tell me if the US allows juries for civil claims, and also, if you were called up for jury duty, would be mandatory to be available for non-criminal cases.
Also, in the episode I was watching last night, jane was suing a clothing shop because they didn't make clothes in her size, would this type of case really have a jury in real life?
