So I'm in my second year (Criminal Justice major) in university and I've managed to drop three courses already out of the 20 I've been enrolled in my first and second years.

Last year in the second semester, I dropped an Intro the Psychology course on the last day to drop courses without academic penalty. Reason: Missed three consecutive lectures, fell behind in readings, knew nothing for the midterm (coincidentally schedule on the last day to drop courses). I wrote the midterm, was stressing about failing it afterwards and immediately dropped the course an hour later. Multiple choice results were up: I passed. FML.

This year so far: Took Intro to Financial Accounting (as an elective, what's wrong with me!?) and a strange class called Biology of a Living City. Accounting was too complicated, and I failed the midterm by one mark despite doing well on the midterm.

Biology of a Living City was said to be an easy course from other students who took it before; a different professor is teaching it for the first-time this semester. Very disorganized professor, and one of those anti-technology user type of profs. Instead of being a lab biology course like in most universities and colleges, this one is an Arts course. It said highschool biology was not required and I later found out the course was just a combination of 11th and 12th grade biology. The problem besides the prof? He went back and forth between grade 11 and 12 content. And I know you need grade 11 chemistry (which I never took) around here to understand grade 12 biology in highschool, so all the grade 12 content made little sense to me. OH, and he basically also turned it into a pro-evolution/anti-intelligent design course. Urgghh.

So I'm already down three credits and out like $1500+ in tuition in books. Can't wait to see how this affects my student loan amount.

All right, your turn =P
NEWSFLASH: I HAVEN'T BEEN A MODERATOR FOR LIKE 2-3 YEARS, SO STOP MESSAGING ME ABOUT YOUR PROBLEMS.

My mother wishes me to go nursing but i don't want to, so in my 1st year 2nd semester of my studies I didn't go to school. I go anywhere I want and not informing my mother or father about this. But It doesn't last long. Our School's Disciplinary Officer talk to my parents and also me. Then after that I run away off my house and didn't come home for 1 week. My parents look after me. I stayed at my classmate's dorm. But unfortunately I don't have much money for a month so I came home apologizing to my parents. They also understand and so I was able to shift to my favorite course biggrin.gif that's all *bow* xD

Oh wow. OP, the first class you dropped. D: That sucks!

The only class I've dropped so far was my math class, finite math. My first semester freshman year (this semester, haha) I couldn't handle the stress of being away from school AND the stress of math (I'm terrible at math) so I dropped it and immediately felt all this weight lift off my shoulders. I'm taking it next semester instead, since I'm more adjusted to being away from home.

dropped my first year physics this semester
was penalized 10% of tuition but I just had way to much on my plate
I plan on taking it this upcoming semester.

What I really wish I dropped though is my english class, because I only have it
once a week and its a 3 hour long lecture, I end up putting it on my last of things to do
and by the time i get to that class work I just don't have the right state of
mind to comprehend let alone spill out a few papers worthy of a passing grade sleep.gif

I've learnt my lesson though ... I hope tongue.gif

I dropped my High School Calculus class the second I received my acceptance letter to USC. biggrin.gif
'cause to be honest, it just isn't something that my mind was made to process. And my academic advisor said its more likely for USC to take back their offer if I try and finish the class and fail it, than just to drop it.
DOUBLE WIN! lol.

Sorry it's more like a hs class than a college class. I think I've managed my college classes pretty okay so far smile.gif

and kcn: i TOTALLY feel you about 3 hour lectures. I had to sit through a religion class for 3 hours every week this semester and i must say, i'm SO glad the semester's almost done so I don't have to dread Wednesdays anymore.
i literally sit 5 minutes in silence (after i finish that weekly paper due for that same class of course) every tuesday night dreading the next day.

I'm at the University of Alberta... lol I was a foolish 1st year and took Latin.... withdrew from that. Was way too heavy with my four other science courses @o@

I dropped Organic Chem II in my 3rd year and then retook it this past summer (it was a requirement for me to graduate).

Costs are about $550 per course at the U of A... terrors on my wallet. Another year to go... due to my last minute decision to do Molecular Genetics specialization program for my Bachelor's of Science... hahaha luckily I was doing a Biosci Major Business Minor so it didn't affect me too drastically....

Advice:
Do NOT take courses outside your specialization in your first year.
Do NOT take ORGANIC CHEMISTRY if you don't need it to graduate or apply to whatever you want to do in life. Physics too. University Physics is EVILLLLLL
Try to avoid randomly switching your final major last minute.

In the event you couldn't drop the class in time and you do horribly... remember: GPA BOOSTERS ARE YOUR FRIEND biggrin.gif
I stopped believing.

linguistics... had NO IDEA what so ever what the prof was mumbling about.. he had a thick accent too

dropped it first week or second week.. cost me $100?

they start to charge a week before sem starts for dropping if you don't replace it with another course to fulfill the amount of credits you started with in the semester

im the second year and i've dropped one course

that course there were around 66 students or so.. not reach 70

after one of the major exams which is like 40 percent of the grade, around 55 ppl failed(including me)

so i just dropped of that course, not only because of the score, but also because of the teacher.
