for the past few months i've been using my sisters car but now, shes going to be using it to get to work etc.. so now i need to get my own car. Only thing is, if i get a car, i plan on using it through college, grad school, and even some more afterwards if need be. I work part time and make about 800 a month so i'm gonna guess around 400 into car payments a month.

I checked my credit and i have excellent credit, my driving record is clear and insurance went down this year a bit. now.. how much should i spend on my car? I was thinking maybe 12k?

what are some things i should know about car loans?

any suggestions would be helpful thanks!

besides paying off a car, you still need to pay for insurance. if you're financing a car, you'll need to buy full insurance. you also need to worry about gas fees and other expenses.

get a used car.
most preferably a japanese car.
easy to maintain, fuel efficient, etc
vws are expensive to maintain.
i know from many people who own one.

as for loans, if you do not have any credit history, you will neeed someone to sign your loan.
factor in how much you are willing to put down, and how much you can afford to pay every month.
remmeber, the longer the loan term, the more you will end up paying for your car because of all the financing.

12k sounds good.
really depends on how much you are willing to spendd and
the make/year/model of the car.

if buying used, dont forget to check out car fax reports and do plenty of research.

i was in your situation several months back so i know whats going on.
